Gas mileage in your 55s?
55, How long has it been since you had a plug change? I am taking mine in for a 60K and B service and they are including changing the plugs.

I don't know what you are smoking, but the official fluid filled weights of the ML55s range from about 4700 lbs in 2000 to a little under 5100 pounds in 2003. Your estimate isn't even within 20% of the heaviest ML55 ever made. The weight you are reporting is actually about the weight of a H1 hummer. 1000 lbs shouldn't make that huge of a difference in fuel economy by itself, maybe your slightly shorter final drive causes some of the difference. Permanent four wheel drive would probably seal some of it, if you have it. Just found out what it is most likely, your CD. Mine is .27 yours is .39, that is about the same aerodynamic efficiency as a walmart, which should give you lamentable jeep wrangler and hummer like fuel mileage.
Little C, huh? What is that supposed to mean? My wheelbase is 107" yours is 111", I don't think you are as big as you think you are. 55.5" tall versus 71" tall, or less than a foot and one half taller. The ML55 was never a big SUV, that is why your backseat is every bit as unuseable as mine. You should be proud of its compact size. If it was a comment about it being a c-class, well, it really isn't. It is half clk and half c, costs more than yours, out performs yours in every onroad category except cargo holding... So, I give up, what did you mean by that?

Why dont you have a look under gross vehicle weight... last time I saw it 6283 meant 6300lbs?... vehicle curb weight is 4900...so you were right almost...
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/mer...Mercedes-Benz*
Your car has a curb weight of 1500lbs less... but I would imagine your Gross weight will be significantly less then the ML55 as the containers for liquids are fairly larger too... 26gallon tank vs I think 20?, 2gallons of washer fluid etc etc If you didnt know, one of the main faults of the W163, was its overly anxious scale tipping... one of the reasons its not as nimble as the other luxo SUVs...
And if you look at prices new, ML55s were priced higher then C55s... ML55s initial sticker price was 65,xxx... C55 is 55,xxx... you cant compare the two as they were never made during the same times
Thank you but the red callipers comment... no one seems to think they are really red from the factory... they did make this truck pretty bad *** when it was released!!!
Although I do have to say your silver calipers look pretty classy!!! And I wasnt commenting on your car being a C... its not... its an AMG before anything else... and if you want to compete you come to level playing ground... how bout we throw 4inches of snow on the ground and we both take some snow tires??? Then we can see how nimble your c is
I didnt buy my ML for racing, that is just a cool little feature :p
PS you read into the little C comment way too much... if I hadnt purchased the ML I would of prolly bought a non AMG C or CLK
I think I know now where you are going wrong with your weights. You are quoting GVWR. This is the maximum allowable weight before the drivetrain is too stressed for driving. This is the weight of the vehicle, plus it's entire payload (people, 2x4 lumber, sodas, unused diapers, used diapers, coolers filled with beer, persian rugs, big screen picture tube tv sets, and anything else you can put in there). The curbweight is the weight of the vehicle empty plus fluids and therefore is the most unbiased comparison as different drivetrains and load distributions and materials, yield different gross vehicle weight ratings. My curbweight numbers came from mercedes direct, so I know this is what they were certified to the TUV at in Germany. Edmunds may state differently, but I am going with the tristar on this one. What is funny to me is that the ML55 became almost 400 lbs more portly between 2001 and 2002. That is some serious TV watching and sourcream and nacho dip eating. Anybody know how this happened? At any rate, the weight of your car if it is a 2000-2001 is about 4700 lbs without you or your stuff in it. The weight of our car if it is a 2002-2003 model it is about 5100 lbs without you or your stuff in it. You're right about the MSRP being 65,900, but I didn't know that any sold for that much. I know the one I was looking at was fresh from Germany and they only wanted about 60k because it wasn't selling. From what I heard they had a pretty hard time moving them, hence their fairly short run and drop in 2004 model year. Maybe I am wrong about that though. Just what I heard around the campfire. Personally, I like the platform, and after I supercharged it, would have something that could really ruffle some feathers.
I doubt many people bought their ML55 for racing, though I could imagine using it for such a purpose with heavy modification, but what I was referring to in the handling department was that I was taking what I thought to be a fairly gentle bend at 65 and the thing almost got up on two wheels. I know that it gave me quite a bit of surprise. Maybe somebody put lead bars up in the roof because they were evil. Anyway, thinks for the mutual respect and keep on representing with your beautiful 55.

I was told that by a German friend who drives Mercedes V12's and didn't believe it until I saw it myself. It must be in a more efficient rpm range or something. They are made to run after all.

As to the production numbers, maybe that's true, I don't have time to research the stats right now, but my information was that they were taken away due to slow sales/lack of interest. I would believe they would sell well in 2000 and 2001, but after that I think the reputation of the ML for poor build quality (being blamed on being built in alabama), caught up with the AMG version (wrongly so, I believe) and killed sales.
Some stats after installing a complete intake system on my ML 55 were the highest I have ever received!! It was while cruising on a full tank 93 oct. fuel rpm at around 2,250 to 2,500 for 30 min. I was blessed with an Average of 28 mpg at around 60 mph. But the average dropped soon after 60 or so miles to 20-22 mpg and this was due to the fact that I was super easy (light) on the gas pedal driving like a 95 year old lady.
I also once received 375 miles to the tank and that was by sucking the tank bone dry I mean I pulled into the gas station running on fumes! And it didnt stall! I had to see what she had!!! And I inadvertently made the check engine light come on! Opps I suggest you dont try this! A quick trip to the dealer and it was fixed no problems caused by my antics. And this was after buying testing out those STP fuel injector cleaners and all other sorts of products which rob gas milage but supposedly "clean" the engine. But I mean I had to try it at least one time to see what it had and it was pretty sweet. I almost got 400 miles out of the tank! But I mean I was super easy on the throttle, not to jab it ever and never accelerating past 3,000 rpm the whole time. I did this little test of mine before I added exhaust and a chip and my tried and true driving method "drive it like you stool it", gunning it to the speed limit each time. Has replaced that segment of time where I was gas conscience. I mean gas is going up no matter what in Europe it's like $5 bucks for a gallon. they dont sell by gallons but liters but thats just a guesstamation.
AS FOR NOW: My gas consumpation is somewhere around 17-19 mpg not bad. The gas prices in my state are ridiculously low and I have cheapest gas station in Jersey maybe the ENTIRE country about 5 miles from my house!
93 octane is 2.05 a gallon and on Sundays it five cents off!!!
2.00 dollars a gallon for super unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its NO Shell, Exxon or Mobil but it gets the job done.
I know its hard to believe but check that gas station site out.

Invest in any air intake system they all work great. given what you pay for is what you get. $150-$1,000 5hp to 30hp on the right style and application. 6 months to 2 years use. without having to clean etc etc.
