Exhaust and Spare????

Anyone have any ideas on a custom exhaust that sounds a little better AND allows the spare to be mounted under the 2000 ML55?

I doubt that.. the ML55 has the resonator right under the bumper, and I believe thats where it stays..

I have a custom exhaust, has the muffler cut out in a way where if the hardware was present you could get the spare to fit out side the car where the normal ones have it. There is a magnaflow muffler welded in the middle of the car where each pipe with cats comes from the engine. From the center point muffler it runs out to the tips, with some fenagling you would be able to get the spare back there

The installation was done by a local exhuast shop. And it sounds pretty good... Mr. Grunt, how do you like the sound?

Is it pretty quite until you get on it or is it loud at low RPMs? --- I would prefer that it to sound pretty "stock" until I put my foot in it!

Oh yea, did you feel any increase in power?

Thanks so much for sharing!

it is quiet at idle. When you get on it it has a growl. And when you bury it, it yells. I think it sounds similar to the SL55 exhuast note. I will try and record it and post it up for everyone to hear, people ask me what it sounds like all the time.

I have also been told it has a bit of a whine like it has a supercharger on it. I had never driven it with the stock exhuast. But from what I understood it helped a bit but not much.

Sounds like what i'm lookin for... It would be cool if you could post a sound byte..... BTW I looked under my 55 yesterday and it look's like the gas tank might get in the way of putting the spare underneath. What do you think?

Thanks
D

Regarding the spare, If I remember correctly, the ml55 gas tank is slightly larger taking more space in that area. Just wanted to throw that reminder in (if I remembered correctly).

Custom exhaust with tips

Heres an exhaust system from the UK that replaces the entire rear muffler assembly no spare tire option here Ithe exhaust would have to take unnecessary twist’s and turns and hinder performance you have to call for price. I am adding this to my wishlist!!

I'm in the process of being set up as a dealer for http://dmhperformance.com/ to be able to offer their electic cutout. Then it can be quiet (on a long crosscountry trip) when it needs to be or dumps 3" exhaust before it hits the final resonator. $200 to have it loud or quiet with the push of a button is better than spending $1200+ on a SuperSprint system
