Who wants an CAI for there 55?
Hey guys who is interested in geting a cold Air Intake for there 55? I have a design I am going to look in to getting manufactured... All I will provide you with is the pipe, it will bring the filter just under the bumper... Once I have mine produced I would like to get a few out there for some members to try... I wont charge more then what it costs me to produce for the first few... I can prolly get some filters too but those will cause the price to vary significantly from me... the pipe will take any cone filter with a 3" opening, I can have it made with a bigger opening as well...

Count me in.. if this design of yours will be similar to the AEM cold air intake, then I might be interested as long as the filter is not exposed to areas where water may sip in thru. Hydrolocking is the last thing I have in mind. LoL.

Pete how are you designing this? How will you fit it through the bumper? is that possible? Remember my intake? I cut the tube to fit. I changed it up a little bit and now fit another piece of tubing extracting and directing air onto the area where my filter cone. I did this by means of having the tube protruding slightly in front of the radiator directly behind the grill. The problem is that I need to cut an aluminum box or something to block the heat radiating from the engine. Post some pics of your idea, sketches. Let me know if you need help.

I knew what they looked like, I mis understood your post and thought they made one FOR the ML... yea, the one I am making will be that style... will also have a greenfilter cone filter most likely... and just taking some measurments this afternoon it looks like Hydro lock will not be an issue unless you go through a puddle some 20" deep... BUT if you are worried about it there is a part you can purchase from AEM, a by pass valve that you could retro fit to my intake...

For your set up might I recomend getting some metal flashing and simply bending it in to shape a box? also saw this link and thought it was a phenominal idea...

"As far as I know, there's no aftermarket intake heat shield made for the E39 540, so...
Rubbermaid office trashcan (part # 2965, $2.99 at Home Depot) and about 15 minutes with a heat gun. ; )"
That is genius!! Wish I thought of that! Definitely going to try this!
