How do you reprogram the key remote of 01' ml55
how do you reprogram the remote key for the ml. I changed the battery b/c it was getting weak and now it wont respond. the battery is in correct and the remote lights up, whats the trick?

All these steps have to be done within 10 seconds
1. put key into ignition and turn to position 2
2. remove key and press+hold the lock button
3. while holding down the lock button press the unlock button 5 times
4. release all buttons
5. press either the lock or unlock button to finalize the programmning

Thanks for the info.
I did exactly what you instructed and it locked the doors but it wont work after that. None of the buttons operate. Is there another step after programming?

I am not sure why it did not work.... It worked fine on mine when I replaced the battery.
The first time I did it I was not holding the lock button while pressiung the unlock button five times.
If you are doing the procedure correctly and it does not work right, then you might have to take a trip to the dare I say it.......dealership gasp!
Sucks, but it might need to go there so they can program through the Star Diag. ... If you are good friends with your advisor or bring him some doughnuts or something they might do it for free.. I have heard some dealerships actually charge for it...

God....I love this forum....I just experienced the same problem...so I changed the batteries...and nothing worked.
I did exactly as listed in the instructions....and now it works perfectly.

Hi did you ever figure ot the problem? i have same thing with my 01 ML55 after i program the key it locks the car and after that it doesn't work Let me know please, thanks
