Putting the ML63 to work!

I know the ML is just supposed to look pretty and go fast, but today I wanted to see it perform off the drag strip. So I took the ML to Lake Erie today to give it a workout. Hooked it up to my boat and was pleasently suprised at how well the car tows. As I backed the boat down the ramp, the hydrostatic transmission made me a little nervous. But it worked just fine. You just want to be really, REALLY sure you've got it in park and the E brake is on.

MB rates the ML63 at a 5000lb towing capacity but it feels like it tows my 4800lb boat better than my 6500lb rated Toyota Sequoia. The acceleration is much quicker and the 7 speed tranny never seemed to bog down after a shift. Of course the ML has about 170 more ft. lbs. of torque so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I'm not trying to sound like an advertisement for MB, but MAN! I'm liking this truck more and more every day.

My one wish... a little better gas mileage. Pulling the boat I could actually see the fuel needle move! But you can't have everything can you, and hell gas is only $2.19. It'll never go up...

Haha nice! Wonder if the C55 can do anything like that?

Reminds me of the Cayenne Turbo I saw towing a trailer for a horse. My guess was that parents needed to bring her daughter's horse somewhere...

Looks so strange to see a ML63 being used as a workhorse, but it is great that it can do that.

You know it man! Ya think I'd get any stares pulling up to the Christmas tree lights with that behind me! (It don't get much more redneck than that)

BuckeyeBenz... thanks, they're just starting to hit the dealerships. I'm having a blast with it so far. and of course...

ROUND ON THE ENDS AND HI IN THE MIDDLE...OHIO! Go Bucks!

Rumor has it I broke the 1K barrier today and had a little triple digit party. But it's just a rumor. I neither admit nor condone breaking the legally posted speed limit. (very smoothly, like it was on rails I might add...)

Your right. My boat is only about 3000lb and it was working less than my Denali while towing.

By the way. Wrigley is not nearly as good as a passenger as Rider is. She is only 4 years onld and all over the truck. Panting and drooling all over the nice suede shoulder pads of the rear seats.

Black & Tan...Nice Speedster man! My last boat was a 20' Challenger, and it was a great boat. I never had to worry about outdrives and props! Have you tried the submarine move yet?

Plus... the ML looks great even at work. I like the way the seven speed tranny doesn't hunt around for gears when I'm cruising. It's weird accelerating so quickly with a boat behind you. I'd almost forget its behind me, but then physics kicks in when I begin to slow and I remember real quick I'm pulling a boat.

I'm beginning to feel I need to take some picts of my ML with my dogs...

Yes, pics of your dog/s would be great! As long as you don't show them driving

Gas where I am is 2.51 for 87 and 2.87 for 93....needless to say, if I saw the gauge going down while driving OH MAN. Regardless the fact that the 63 can tow, play in the snow, and beat most sports cars @ a light means that AMG proved again that they are the premier automotive sporting division (compared with M and GmBH). The black on black truck look amazing and those pictures are great.

P.S. Guys, try to keep the dogs from ruining the suede

Very very nice. Glad you are enjoying the "truck" and most importantly, using it like one. Other than our tranny issues, i loved our ML500 and that isn't NEAR the truck the ML63 is.

I also love the obsidian on it.

I was suprised as well about the towing capacity.
My ML63 tows my trailer that has two jet skis great.
It actually tows it better than my GL, which has a higher towing capacity I think.

Overall - the ML63 is becoming one of my favorite vehicles to drive.

Where I live Petrol (Gas) is £4.73 ($9.13) for a gallon of BP Ultimate 97. But I still think it's worth the price.

Rider...that's awesome! How do you get the bike on the rack? Did you try to raise the air suspension with the bike on the back? How did it ride with all that weight on the rear axles?

Nice looking bike BTW...

There is a 6' detachable ramp that is fastened to the carrier just inside of the bike. It removes easily and since the carrier is only about 14" off the ground it is relatively easy to push the bike up on the carrier via this ramp.

The bike weighs 420 lbs. and the carrier is an additional 70 ... 490 lbs. total.

The ML63 was not running when I loaded the bike on the carrier and when I started the ML63 up the back of the vehicle was raised to be level with the front automatically. It rode great...like there was nothing back there.

However, the 0-60 etc. times will suffer

The bike I assume you're wondering about? It's a Suzuki GSXR 1000... '06 model. What a blast to ride!!!! Yes, more fun than ripping around in the ML63....believe it or not

Performance for the GSXR: 0 - 60mph: under 3 seconds (depending on rider and launching capabilities). 0 - 100mph: low to mid 5's !!! 1/4 mile: high 10's at around 143 mph. Whew! Of course I've never done this...it comes from my memory of reading mcycle mags.

And they're "cheap" !
