Gas Mileage

I know all you speed demons are looking forward to showing off this statistic.. what kind of mileage are you getting with the ML 63? What kind of fuel are you using also.

Mercedes site recommends 91 Octane but the AMG site recommends 98 Octane. I'm sure the majority of you (if not all of you) are using 91/93 but I have a few places I can fill up around here with 98. Anyone try it and notice a difference mileage wise... and performance wise?

As for milage... I'm getting about 11-13 mpg. Not very good but almost all my driving is short hops. (I only live 2 miles from my business) I have yet to take a long highway trip to see how far I can get on a tankful. So far with my short hop driving I'm getting about 300 miles to the tankfull.

I use 93 octane exculsivly. I'd love to try the 98 but there's no resource here.

I did a full Hwy trip last week and got about 16.5 MPG with an average speed 71 MPH and only 680 miles on the car. At about 380 miles the gas light came on. I noticed the book says the gas tank is (I am going from memory here) about 25 gallons with a 2.7 gallon reserve. But with the light on and a little less that 1/8 left it only took 23 gallons. Is it 28 gallons total or 25? Is there 2.7 gallons left after the needle is on the last bar of E?

Specs say the tank capacity is 25 US gal. I would assume that means you burn through 23 gal before you hit the reserve.

16mpg is great!

According to the owner's manual when the low fuel light goes on the ML63 has approx. 4 gals. left. The ML500 and 350 have about 3.5 gals. left. Go figure

I have a little over 2K miles on my ML63 and I have been getting around 12 mpg. with a mix of in town and some freeway driving and on a couple of longer trips right around 17 mpg. with very little "spirited" driving.

Great vehicle!!

I think that us 93 (Premium) is about the same what Euro 98 is.
87 is 95
85 is 92
USA calculates octane numbers a little different if I remeber, correct.

Well, I'm just saying that I can get 98 octane from about 2 of 6 of my closest gas stations. So what is that in Europe? I figured I'd try it a few times... especially when I take it down to the strip.
