I just bought a G-Tech device to measure 1/4 mile, 0-60, horsepower, torque among other things. After reading the owners manual of the G-Tech I have found there are quite a few variables that need to be set and then of course depending on altitude and temperature on test day will allow for quite a large gap of acceleration times too. I could take it to the local drag strip here in Las Vegas but I like the fun of "doing it on my own" with the G-Tech device.

Has any one here used the G-Tech or something similiar? From what I've read it's very accurate as long as you set it up properly. Should be a fun challenge.

My ML63 has a little over 2,000 miles on it now and has been working flawlessly. No problems at all to report. Can't wait for it to rain to check out the hydroplaning "issue".

Haven't removed the running boards yet, but I have a new set of stock rocker panels ordered ( I'm tired of waiting for a take off set from someone putting on running boards on their ML350 or 500). I'm hoping next week to have the boards removed and will surely post photos when it's complete.

I agree that the rb's are integrated well but they're unnecessary IMO . That being said I'm having the dealer remove one and install the stock rocker panel to see how it looks and....if it doesn't look good (especially the integration with the tack on fender flares) then I'll leave the rb's on and learn to live with 'em.

Thanks for your input!

Its all realtive...unnecessary to you may not be unnecessary to me. Take my ML430 for example. My mom is really short. Whenever I take her out in the ML she needs to step on the running boards to get up into the truck. So for her they are necessary.

Again.....its all relative.

I'll be very interested to see how your G-Tech works Rider1! I'm a little apprehensive on 0-60 & 1/4 mile times. MB usually is very conservative in their advertised 0-60 times, but some of the E63 guys weren't getting the times they were expecting. In my opinion the jury's still out as to which E class is faster. I think both cars are just about as fast to 60, they just get there differently.

I'd like to take mine to Norwalk Speedway in Ohio to get a feel for the times but that won't happen till the spring.

i had a beltronics unit that did the same thing. i ran a 4.9 to 60 w/ 2 people on board and the tires werent perfect (clk55)

thats about right, there will always be variations in times depending on the equipment used, weight, weather......

I don't mean to bump this thread but I'm looking forward to the answer. An onroad 0-60 time as well as a 1/4 mile time.. best of 3 minimum.

I'm just assuming no one has broken one in enough as yet to try it?

Perf. results using the G-Tech

Test conditions:

Elevation: 1870'

Temp: 66 degrees F.

Fuel: 91 pump octane 3/4 full

Mileage on vehicle: 2,108

Weight: 5510 lbs. ( 5240 empty vehicle + 200 for me + 70 for my dog )

Wind: less than 5 mph.

I performed a total of 6 runs, 3 in each direction on this flat paved road about 18 miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada. This road is about 6 miles long and is a dead end with absolutely no traffic. I used the Sport Mode and tried power braking up to 2,000 rpm's. I let the transmission shift on it's own for all 6 runs. No tire slippage at all.

Results: 0-60: 5.00 - 5.11

1/4 mile: 13.45 - 13.60 @ 103.6 - 104.7

The best run was performed using power braking at 1,000 rpm's. I did let the vehicle idle for about 5 minutes in between each run. Water temp did not rise but oil temp rose about 5 degrees for each run and then came back down and stabilized before the next run.

Note regarding the G-Tech: I am a very techical person and was very careful to set up the G-Tech properly and accurately before the test.

This is a one time test for my car, now I'm just going to enjoy it for it's all around comfort and performance.

My dog is a chocolate lab, almost 12 years old, and VERY used to riding in many many vehicles I've owned over his lifespan. He was just laying down in the back seat...nothing get's him very excited. Plus it was just straight ahead acceleration..albeit strong, no make that VERY strong !
I had to laugh at your concern in a good way of course. My dog ( his name is......... Rider ) is my best companion and I take him just about everywhere I go.

Awsome name! I have a 4 year old goldendoodle that won't sit still in my car. If I tried that she would be stuck to the tailgate during acceleration. Glad to see your dog likes fast cars... I mean trucks.

wow, im surprised, i though it wold be faster (a whole 4mph faster)

my cousins ml63 felt faster than my clk55, and my clk was definitely fast (very low 13s car)

maybe its the elevation, but i still dont think itll pick up 3-4mph at sea level

thanks for posting

Actually I think the ML63 would pick up a couple of tenths in the 0 - 60, .3 to .5 and 4 - 5 mph in the quarter mile down at sea level. I'm not going to test it but maybe someone else would like to give it a go

I've put 2,400 miles on my ML63 and Monday I'll be taking a 700 mile trip. No problems to report so far and I'm just enjoying the hell out of this vehicle !!!

Hope you all are too !!

How many miles are you guys putting on them to break them in before taking them to the strip? I'm just itching to take it down there as soon as I get it (and I'm very close to sea level) but I don't want to do anything to F it up.

The owner's manual says after 1K miles finish breaking it in "gradually". I waited until 2K miles to perform the acceleration tests posted above.

Have Fun and enjoy that strong acceleration
