I put Blizzak DM-23 On my ML63 today

I put Blizzak DM-23 On my ML63 today. Size p265/50 R20 on the original AMG wheels.

The vehicle feels like a mini van now as far as body roll etc. I was told that will go away as the tires wear a little. Can anyone verify this from experience. I can't believe the difference from the stock 40 series tires, but here in the Northeast I will need them soon.

I do want to hear about your experience with these tires, michaelt - do us a favor and keep us posted as Winter transpires?

OMG! You have violated the sacred Mercedes - Pirelli covenant. How dare you put an unofficial tire on those rims. How will the dealerships feed their families if they can't gouge us on winter tire packages!

Seriously, I think that its great that you are thinking outside the box. Please keep us updated on how they perform.

Maybe put stock ML rims on with snow tires and keep the AMG rims for the summer?

What I am trying to say here is although I am sure in snow these Blizzaks will do well. On dry pavement they totaly change my ML 63's handeling characteristics. I am told this will improve. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

How narrow can you go?

There was no problem fitting these to the original 20's? Interesting. The 295's that come stock would be 11.614" wide. The "recommended" size - the actual recommended is of course on a wheel that MB does not provide! - is 275, or 10.827". Your 265's are 10.443'. I believe the 20" wheel is 10" wide? So in theory even a 255 would fit, at 10.04. The stock sidewall height is 118mm (.4 x 295), and you have 132.5 mm (.5x265), so that might be a little of the effect you are feeling, too. I believe there is a Pirelli Scorpion winter that is 265-45, so that would give a ride height of 119.25, closer to stock, but fairly narrow Tirerack suggests 275-40 ( a sidewall height of 110, slightly lower than stock). My Cayenne TT recommends a drop from 255 to 235 for winter (waiting for delivery of ML 63). The weight is similar, but the CTT is certainly lower than the ML

Width was why i suggested dropping the rim to the normal ML one, possible help to cut through the snow, no?

The non AMG "normal" ML rims (18" &19") do not clear the calipers for the AMG brakes.

Thanks for the fill-in I didn't even think of that I put snow tires on my car and I use Nokian Tyres....very good indeed. My next set I plan on getting them studded, but I am **** about snow tire traction.

That's OK, we've been wrangling with this issue for over a month. I'm in a wait and see mode myself.

If you want Nokian’s that will work on the stock 20’s, have the severe weather symbol but come with all season 100 k warranty the WRAWP SUV 275/40R20XL will work (http://www.nokiantires.com/en/tire_w...season=summer). If wear is not on issue and you want the best winter traction then the Hakkas will work to (http://www.nokiantires.com/en/tire_hakkasuv.aspx).

It would be nice to find a set of 19 inch rims that would fit the ML 63 with a width of 9 then you could get to a 255/50 R19XL in either. The 19 inch AMG’s won’t work for this as they are 9.5 wide. I believe Les Schwab carries Nokians in the U.S.

One potential problem I see is that the rims may be too wide for the tires.

Blizzak specs them for 7.5 to 9.5 inch wide rims. And the ML63 AMG comes with AMG 5-spoke design 10.0J x 20 standard wheels.

Hope they dont come off the rims during fast cornering...

I have the Hakkapeliitta tyres, and the work AWESOME, I would recommend them to anyone regarldes of vehicle type because they are simply the best in the snow.

If I would like to replace my Blizzaks with an all season radial, any suggestions. The Blizzaks make my vehicle feel to sloppy. I am willing to sacrafice some snow driving for a better feel on non snowey roads.

Any suggestions of brands and size would be appreciated.

As I posted above:

You simply will not find a better all season. But don't take my word for it

http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/hl/nokian.htm

There is a peformance downside but I suspect they would handle better than the Blizzaks. Otherwise you are looking at a second set of rims and dedicated tires.

OKAY. I went back to my local tire dealer today and they claim the Blizzaks 265-50-20R's are fine and as they wear the roll feeling will go away.
According to the above posts, am I OK with this tire on te stock ML AMG 20inch wheels. The tires are speced for rims 7.5-9.5 inches and the ML rims are 10. Is that a big deal?
It seems the narrower tire 50 vs 40 is better for the snow, but is the higer profile hurting my handeling?

I would appreciate advice on this situation.
