Performance mods

For ECU there are several $$ options but I was wondering if anyone has tried the usual aftermarket air filter or similar mods?

Just as an unrelated aside: do Canadian ML's come with the electric cord for the block heater hooked up?

What do you call a 503-horsepower SUV?

A good start...

Ecu is available from renntech! Headers are availabale too but only for sedan E63 so far, they need a donor to make them for ML63 although renntech stuff is pricy!

E63 renntech with headers and Ecu was rated @ 555 hp and 515 ft of trq.

Are there any threads yet of E63/CLS63 owners that have fitted the ECU mod? I would be interested to hear how tuneable the engine is.

ECU upgrades are available but Renntech doesnt offer headers for the ML. (maybe in the near future, there's one but so far, none)

Any idea what the performance gain is on a 63 without changing the headers?

p.s. I wonder if it's the same with Mercedes as with BMW. The headers on UK/European BMWs are less restrictive so there's little to be gained by changing them, whereas it's really worthwhile with US delivered cars. Over in Europe we tend to focus on upgrading the cats and removing resonators.

its only $3000
for something that should cost no more than $1000

if i had a 63 i would wait, i know its difficult (believe me) but wait a little, there might be exhaust systems coming from supersprint/eisenmann etc... (someone should give them a call to find out) and im sure kleeman is going to come out with some stuff

for now throw in some k&n's and get rid of the resonators

Does anyone have a part number for the K&N's (or BMC filters). I must admit I haven't had time to poke around and find the filterbox yet. I wonder if it's the same as on other 63 models.

Likewise I've considered removing the resonators, but on the ML63 there is a brace across the resonators which acts as a support for the exhaust, so it's more than just replacing the resonators with straight pipes - you'd also need to fabricate a new brace. Not insurmountable but probably more than hours work.

But those are the two mods that I would normally do.
