BMW 335i twin turbo vs ML63

I did a race last night with a 335i twin turbo. Both car are stock.
I beat him for around one car and a half lenght.
We raced dead stop to 130mph.

His car suppous to makes 340HP at the motor, but weight a lot lesss than mine.

Regards!!

I think the advertised hp & tq are both 300, unless he has an AA chip installed.

I had a 335IX on order as a backup to my ML63 (in case I didn't like it) I testdrove the 335i and thought it was very fast, it has two really small Turbo's that have very little lag. Actually I am surprised that the ML stayed in front of it; good news!

Cheers

Nice kill

Result doesn't surprise me. I'm not a great fan of the 335 and the ML63 is a beast. Haven't had the chance to run the big benz on the hwy yet but it'd probably be close.

FYI, i once got dusted by a G55k from the lights- that was embarassing but I gave him the thumbs up as you can't help but love that tank

Even though the 335i is said to have 300 horses, many people have tested it on the dyno and have got around 330-340 horse out of it.

The 335i I raced last night, showed in the dyno 292rwhp, that's close to 340hp in the motor.

Anyway, ML still in front of him!!! LOL

Yup, BMW underrated the engine in publications. Dynos have shown to put out more at the crank than 300hp stock.

Thanks for pointing it out guys, so this scenario is like what Dodge did for the SRT-4 and Ford for its last generation Cobra.

You sure about that. Autocar tested the 335i at 5.4 0-60 while the M3 got 4.8 and the C32 4.6. They're figures are pretty accurate.

I'd fancy my chances against a 335i in the straights and as for the twisties there's no comparison

The 335 appears to be about 4.8s (or 5.0) to 60 and 13.3 in the quarter

The average ML63 numbers seem to be 4.7 and 13.2 I think.
The two are so close in acceleration I would think the only reason an ML might smoke it would be traction. Otherwise who ever gets on it first wins.

I meant that the 335i is overrated. It is not as good a handler as the E46 M3.

Anyhow, you own an ML63 and an M3 (Coupe, i hope) so you have a fair idea. Surely you're not saying the ML63, as good as it is, can handle like an M3? Benchmark cars like the GT3 set the pace but my old thing ain't too shabby!

Well as I discovered when we track tested the ML63 in last month's EVO, it laps a circuit as quickly as an M5, which in turn was faster around that particular circuit than an E46 M3, so surprisingly I am saying it will cover ground through the twisties as quickly as the M3.

My M3 is a CSL, so it certainly won't corner as quickly as that, but a normal M3 would be fair game.

I used to have a CSL. Wrote it off at Croft racetrack near Darlington. The paddles were a pain though. The exhaust note was to die for, the wet weather handling was brought one close to death.

My current M3 is the CS so it has the brakes, steering rack etc from the CSL. Handles just as well but is a touch slower due to the weight and of course the slicks

4.6 for a C32? That article was openly ridiculed for having published hokey times on the C32. There is no way a C32 stock does 0-60 in 4.6 sec. I had a C32 and have driving C32's in all states of tune and Maybe 4.6 is possible with a stage 2 car but that is it.

5.4 would be the slowest time I have seen for a 335i to date but who knows. I am fairly intrigued by the car but I think there will be oil cooling issues when driven hard. The automatics are having issues already and sources say even manuals are going into limp home mode after a session or two on a road course due to 300 deg plus oil temps. Upgrade time I think!

That's abobut rigth. Please tell your friend that a simple to install inexpensive kit will safely deliver +60whp and +80lbft of torque.

My 335i do over 333hp and 391tq at the wheel, and a new software release will improve those gains in a couple of weeks from now.

I am also ordering an LSD so that the rear wheels may find some traction in the 3 first gears...

Send me a PM if your friend is interested.
