Congrats Masmole! It's a beauty! I followed break in proceedures as well and I can honestly say it was the longest thousand miles of my life!

Now you're ready to rock with both the M5 and ML63. Two rides at the top of their catagory. (Okay, maybe the M5 and E63 are too close to call - I had to say that... it is the MBWorld forum after all...)

Again Congrats!

Thanks for all the complinents everyone!

AVB-AMG, for paint protection, I've aleady made an appointment to have 3M film (clear bra) installed for critical areas up front to prevent rock and debris chips and other road rash from highway driving or from following trucks too close. I've had it installed on all my past and current cars and I've had very good luck with it. For the rest of the car, a periodic detailing and coat of wax is all I'll be doing. As for the winter months, it doesn't snow all that much in Chicago either, and when it does, they usually do a very good job of clearing it up. I too am probably going skip out on winter tires for this year and see how the Conti Crosscontacts will fair. And if the snow does fall heavy, I can always jump in the Audi which I do have a set of winter wheels and tires for.

why all the care in breaking in these engines? any time I have spoken to anyone AMG related(US AMG product management team) I have heard that to get all of the power out of these vehicles in the future, you should push them hard during break in, not abuse, but run them with **** and vinegar...

I do believe each engine has already been run for 1000 simulated miles on the hockenheim.

2011 ML63
I got a surprise call today from my dealership informing me that I could pick up one right away similar to the one I had ordered for the end of June.
Picking it up Thursday night.....time for some fun.

I guess the guy that was expecting this ML63 and got a 5 year suspension for DUI--repeat offender.

Received a similar call

I finally received the call Monday afternoon (6/04) from my Mercedes-Benz Dealer saying thay my long-awaited new 2007 ML63 just arrived at the dealership in NJ. I will take delivery this coming Sat. and will post pics once I have a chance to take some. I will be turning in my '04 E55 at the same time, due to end of lease. Then, on Sunday, I will drive my fully cleaned and detailed 1961 M-B 190SL to a Mercedes-Benz Club of America local NJ meet, resulting in a full Mercedes weekend!

Sezer1986: I have a small thumbnail pic of my '04 E55 in my profile. I turned in the vehicle the same time I picked up my new ML63 very recently.

I finally got it!

Well I finally picked up my new '07 ML63 AMG last week and turned in my '04 E55 AMG, (I have leased both vehicles). The excitment of delivery and first drive away is always fun and I am now in the process of see exactly what this vehicle is like. My Dealer said the AMG requires no break-in period, but that M-B recommends a 1,000 mile "take-it-easy" period for the breaks, (first time I have heard that one...). My ML63 appears to be the same spec and color combination as Masmole's that is featured/pictured in early posts in this thread. The Sirius satelite radio seems to work better on the ML, dropping signal less often than the early dealer-installed system on my '04 E55. While the ML's acceleration is not as brutelly wonderful as the E55, it is better than all but the Jeep SR model. Now only if they offered the LED tail lights with the smoked red lenses....
BTW, my ML differs from Masmole's as follows:

1. I opted to keep the leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel since the palms of my hand tend to perspire when I am traveling at triple digit speeds and the leather provides a better grip.... (only kidding)

2. I encountered a misunderstanding between my M-B Dealer's interpretation of "illuminated door sills", which I had ordered as a dealer-installed option on the 2007 models, (which will now be a factory-installed option on the '08s). Apparently, most of you who selected the blue illuminated door sills received the ones that say "Mercedes-Benz". I want the blue illuminated door sills that say "AMG", as illustrated on the AMG web site as an option for the ML. As my Dealer and I now know, the AMG version is not an option that is available directly from Mercedes-Benz and has to be ordered directly from AMG for an additional $525 over the cost of the Mercedes-Benz version! Well, to make a long story longer, my nose was out of joint at this revalation a couple of days prior to my pick up of the vehicle since I had provided my Dealer with the specific part number of this AMG option back in early March and assumed, (incorrectly) that they would accurately take care of it. After discussing this issue with the owner of the Dealership, he prevailed and "did the right thing" and said the Dealership would absorb the cost differential for the AMG door sills, which they have ordered from AMG and will install them on my vehicle at no add'l. cost to me when they arrive from Germany in early July. As a result, I can attest to an excellent overall Dealer purchase experience and can and will recommend them highly to anyone who is considering buying or leasing a M-B in northern NJ. I am in the process of writing a glowing letter of recomendation to MBUSA about them. BTW, they are Ray Catena Mercedes-Benz of Union, a new Dealership recently opened and separate from the original location in Edison, NJ.

3. As noted in my earlier posts, I had a new stealth K40 CALIBRE radar/laser detector/diffuser system installed by an after-market group and it works like a charm, (so far). We took the instrument cluster out of the dash and incorporated the systems blue LED indicator lights into the white plastic sleaves of the right and left directional signals, just as someone had suggested in this forum a couple of months back, and thus avoided having to drill any holes in the instrument cluster. A radar/laser visual indication is now done via a blue light in the directional signal: front detection via the left signal and rear detection via the right signal. A separate remote located speaker provides either audible voice or beep warnings complimenting the visual lights. All of this is controled via a samll battery operated remote control that fits in the central dash drawer. I also had a second laser diffuser added in behind the front grille. Since we were mounting them behind the metal grille which can be problematic based on the related discussion thread in this forum, that seems to make sense for providing added protection/insurance just in case that location diminishes the effectiveness of the system's laser jamming capability.

4. I also have decided to omit the front license plate and its bracket, (for now at least). I much prefer the appearance of the front end of the vehicle without it being mared by a US-style license plate and am willing to risk a small non-moving violation fine from the authorities, if stopped.

5. Also, I have bought and received the SPRINT BOOSTER but have not installed it yet and have decided not to. The reason is that the stock performace of the ML's accelerator response time for my needs and driving style is perfectly adequate. I will be driving the ML into NYC everyday M-F, involving approx. 1.25 hour commute each way on both highways and bumper-to-bumper / stop-and-go trafffic, ending up at a valet parking garage where the attendents park the vehicles very closely together. Considering all of this, the last thing I need is an accelerator device that has a feather-light fast response action. Unlike you guys in CA and Vancouver who have wonderful dry, pothole-free open roads and can truely enjoy what this device does, along with the lowering device, it really does not make sense for my situation. My purchase of the device was "wishful thinking"! Therefore, I would like to avoid eBay and am happy to sell the unused SPRINT BOOSTER to anyone here who is interested for $182, a 50% savings off of the total delivered cost to me, ($364). Anyone interested please send me an email here.

Also if anyone is interested, I will take some photos that do not duplicate what Masmole has already posted. I will do this over the next month or so after I return from a 2-week vacation out of town.
