Upgrading Mufflers Need Info or Feedback!

Alright, getting ready to do my first upgrade! I am thinking of doing the mufflers first. I have searched around and it seems I may go with the Flowmaster Super 40's. Now one question if there is any tech guys out there, with this 6.3 NA monster motor, is a muffler with the highest cfm rating better or worst? Will the higher cfm hinder the motor?

Secondly I read something in one of these threads about taking something out of the stock pipes/mufflers. To increase sound and performance. Anyone tried this yet?

Thanks

Stay away from Flowmaster mufflers, they are made from aluminized steel, which they will rust down the road, second, I had them on my old school Subaru Legacy when I was in high school, it was so freaking loud my friends asked me what did I do to my decently new used car. The stock mufflers are more than enough and if you want more rumble out of them, replace the second pair of cats with straight pipes as there are no sensors behind them, you won't get a CEL.

In case anyone is keeping track of this thread. Here is where I am. I put my baby on the lift and checked out the OEM exhaust system. There is definately two sets of cats, first set near the motor has the O2 sensors on them and the second set has nothing. Only one problem, the second set of cats are welded on to the pipe. So simply unbolting them isnt going to happen. So if I get them taken out, I have to make it so they can be bolted back in (just in case I need to make use of the warranty).

Now the mufflers, of course MB cant make anything easy can they. The OEM mufflers are a weird shape, in and out is 2 1/2" but again in weird locations. So any aftermarket replacement will have to be severly modified. Now I have read about resonator, I am assuming there actually in the muffler. So I am waiting for my buddy who is an MB mechanic to look them over with me. If the resonators can come out, and I can remove the second pair of cats, I might be in good shape. I am also assuming removing the second set of cats should give me a super small performance increase.

Well I will keep you guys up to date.

Ok, for all you Jersey, NY, PA guys went to Mufflex to have the resonators removed. Made a little bit of sound difference, not exactly what I was looking for, but it worked. Now Anthony at Mufflex (which they are high performance experts) said he can make me two custom mufflers to fit in the oem spots. So I think I may go with that later this winter, and he wasn't expensive.
