ML 63 Reliability vs Range Rover and Cayenne.
After seeing the same customers week after week in the service area dropping our cars off to fix something...... again, we had a joke that when you by a Range Rover you should get to also choose what color Corolla you want to drive, because we ended up spending more time in the Corolla than the Rover!
Every time I see a rover ad where they are traversing some desert or mountain think to myself.... "If it wasn't for the crew, those people would be left for dead"!
Having said that, the D90 was very reliable. The key was that there was nothing really to break.

I hated my D90, it was always broken. My Disco II was fantastic, and my Supercharged was literally trouble free until 60k miles. MY ML63, ML55, ML500, CLK55 have all been troublesome and consistently in the shop 10-15 times a year. The only other care I had with more problems was an 2005 S4. My M, only issue thus far, oil sensor. I've just come to the realization that every car has some problems. Just need to deal with them.
I also find it very funny that you mention my little Crossfire SRT-6 in discussion about SUVs.
I have no need for an SUV.................but if I were to get one I would only consider the Jeep GC SRT-8.IMO, RR is better than Jeep GC, and is good enough not to call POS by someone who is complaining because it's just too hard to work...
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
these have been my problems so far:
Software malfunction (car undriveable)
Transmission failure (car would not shift out of first gear)
Power steering (had to be replaced)
Suspension (shock had to be replaced)
Needless to say . . .I'm not happy . . . and pursuing MB north america at the moment.
so far i had just a valve job on it ,since it was a left over model. so far so good.
i leased rr hse back in 05 & had so much problems with it ,i return it after 1 yr .but the rr had the best suv ride on the road.( i had air suspension problems & it does not work in the rain scary )
mb since 05 has being good(my last sl500) , 96 to 02 mb cars had the most problems during this period. i had(96 e320, 01 s500 & 02 cl500) i know the serv advicer by name & became good friends.
as for your question ml63 is hot & the 09 is even better ,so much cheaper than a turbo porsche & faster.
for the money ml63 & they are giving them away nowadays.
i.e. E63, S63, etc.....
It seems in the past years, the ML has somewhat been the odd-ball out of the bunch, w the worst reliability....
Thanks!

Oil Leak
Door Handles Broke
Lift Gate would close
Mirrors wouldn't fold in.
Brakes replaced
Shocks replaced
Transmission replaced
There have been others...
God I love this truck! Oh, by the way, I have to put a 3rd set of tires on the car, at 20k miles! YIPPPEEE!
Why are the tires wearing so quick, do you drive it like your M3? Sry to hear of your troubles, any chance of lemoning it?
-Rob
Edit****- just read they replaced the tranny. OMG
EDIT** I tried the lemon law with MB USA. They said I don't qualify, although the car has been in the shop 31 cumulative days (NJ only requires 20) and the repairs have been major, so I've turned to my attorney to start sending letters, we'll see what happens. My local dealer was looking at getting me into another vehicle, but a divorce related credit issue has recently popped up. So I've asked them to put this car in my company name and they said they won't because I won't get all the "factory cash" I would if it was in my personal name.
Crazy thing is, in expectation of getting my money back, I went to the BMW dealer where I bought my M, started the process for an X5 and was approved no problems.
So, leaving it up to the attorney at this point. We'll see what happens.
