it doesnt NEED them, but they help a lot, it becomes a straight out monster in the snow... I have wheels for sale if you want, 17" Moda R3s, these are what I was using for winter wheels on my 55

ML55 AMG
Can anyone confirm whether the 17" wheels from a 1999 ML430 will fit a 2001 ML55 AMG? Thanks.

17" should fit, the 16" fit in the rear, no chance on the fronts...

Well, got my wheels (Moda wheels) and tires (Michelin Arctic Alpin in 17's ) and needless to say, the ML 55 is a monster in the snow. Had to get the longer lugs for the Modas. In Chicago this week we've been getting quite a bit of snow and ice and the truck is unstoppable. Even on the ice, it stops well, goes well and even steers well. Not as mushy in feel as the old Blizzaks felt. On the highway, the truck now tramlines less than the stock 18 " inchers.

Snow tires, don't leave home without em.

The '99 ML430 17" wheels are a perfect fit. Mounted Bridgestone Blizzak DM-Z3 235/65R-17's. Sure look tiny compared to the AMG 18's & Dunlops.

+1, I opted for the Moda wheels, they look rather nice. The Arctic Alpins are not exactly what I wanted, BUT the wife's car is getting the new Nokian R SUV tires, which I hear are the best snows made??

Sorry man, would love to have em BUT got a set.

Drove the GX470 with the Nokians R SUV (new tire) today on pure ice and are probably (subjectively) the best ice/snows I have ever driven. Certainly better than the Alpins on the ML 55.
