Beware the hitch recall!
Just a heads up to anyone who hasn't had this done.
1. Make your service writer tell you exactly what work they're going to do and how (and where) they'll do it. Specifically, after picking up my ML63 today I discovered they subbed the work out to a friggin' muffler shop! According to the service manager, they don't have welding equipment at the dealership. To me, if you take a vehicle for service you should be told if it will be leaving the premises at ANY point in time for anything beyond a test drive by a technician.
2. My job ended up OK; the shop did a clean welding job, all in all. However, after they add the reinforcing welds, they paint over the repairs. This is done with a can of black spray paint. In my case, they didn't (apparently) mask off the lower bumper/undertray area, and there is a small but annoying amount of overspray. Which is pretty noticeable on a silver car...
Forewarned is forearmed!
