Question on oil leak in ML55

Mine is a 2000 ML55 with 143K miles.
I see a small leak which is like brownish in color coating some of the parts of the transmission oil pan. I see some leak under the bell housing.
I don't think it is transmission oil. I had changed the transmission oil at
90K miles.
I believe it is the rear main engine seal or possibly the rear pan bolts leaking.
I don't remember if there is a bolt on the torque convertor for this vehcile.
I had taken the car to the dealer for the recent recall, so he gave me a laundry list, like $7000 for the work?? was shocked as I maintain my car very well, one of them was the rear main engine seal.
I know there are 2 rear rectangle plastic pieces, remove that and possibly I can see if the oil is leaking from somewhere above and not the seal per say.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
I do have the WIS.
Thanks
Barry
