the 6.2. The mileage is underated from the factory. The factory rates them at 15 highway. I have NEVER got this ever. Lowest was mid 16's when I was ripping it. Normal highway driving at 80 or so an EASY 18.

I'd like to say that my ML is my daily driver and I love the car. I don't care about milage because the truck is safe, full undercarriage, and unstoppable. That's enough for me to buy the gas it uses.

100% Highway with average speed of 80mph: 16.5 MPG
50% City / 50% Highway with combined stop&go and crusing: 12.5 MPG

I use the ML63 primarily for my weekend excursions and as our long-trip/vacation vehicle. The long highway trips to and from our beach house in NC will average between 7 - 8 hours of primarily highway driving. My wife drives down to the house in her car in advance of me, so effectively, I am the "mule" with the cargo, (which I do not mind at all....).
I usually have my wife's and my luggage, along with two golf club bags and a case of wine and a case of beer, so therefore, assume an additional approx. 200 - 250 lbs of cargo weight. Also, I always have used the M-B recommended Premium 93 Octane fuel.

I do find that when I pull away from a stop light with a bit of gusto, my MPG will decrease noticeably, but my youthful enjoyment of the g-pressure feel and guttural exhaust sound of the brute power of the naturally aspirated 63 engine is sometimes just too hard to resist.

This vehicle is everything I had hoped it would be, understanding that the one real negative was that it would always be an expensive premium gas hog. My rationalization is that I just add the cost of the gasoline to the overall "cost" of the vacation or the expense of consistently putting a smile on my face when I drive my ML63.

I would like to endorse these figures as pretty correct and accurate. I have a 2007 ML63 AMG, and admittedly I baby it since it now has 105,000+ miles on it. It still performs flawlessly. The last 5,000 miles I averaged, that is dividing total fuel bought into he distance driven, slightly in excess of 16mpg. The transmission can be 'paddled' into 7th gear without a problem at 50mph. So there is no excuse not to be in 7th gear on a level road. By the way, after the engine/transmission and the drive train have warmed up and are at normal operating temperature, you can pretty well count on getting 20mpg at 50 MPH.

I have an 02 ML55 and 06 CLS 55. Same engines and transmissions. Personal best over a 4 hour highway drive in the ML was 19 mpg at 65 mph and in the CLS 55 at the same speed it was 24mpg. I agree you buy an AMG for fun and to occasionally act like a 16 year old with his father's car on a Friday night!
