These Continental extreme contact DWS tires are what I am using and absolutely love them. Amazing on all surfaces, even very capable off-road in loose dirt and steep rocky situations. Probably not the best in deep mud but then again...its an AMG not a Land Rover. I have heard nothing but great reviews about these for years and years in the Audi scene with regards to snow and ice while maintaining high-performance summer grip. I have used them all summer and have put them to the test daily on many winding mountain roads and have yet to see any flaws, they are very good.

Cheers, AV

New, old Mercedes and REAL AMG's.
Where are you guys located? I was thinking about getting these for my ML63 when the time comes but I live in FL with mostly good roads, zero snow and an occassional mild off road voluntary incursion. Would these be overkill? Oh yeah...it rains A LOT here too.

I'm in Colorado - I know Conti makes DW (dry / wet), and I'd assume those work pretty well too.

How are you finding them in the snow/winter?

They're awesome - I ran them all through the winter (including a few skiing trips) with no issues.

Is it possible to run 305 tires on a 10.5 rim? I know ML63 stock wheels are 10" wide and run 295. Anyone running a 305 tire?

I have been running Continental DWS for almost 15k miles and tortured the hell out of them. I even tracked them (which they are NOT designed for) and they managed to hold up very well.

I will be ordering my second set very soon. They are the best tire for the money at the OEM size of 295/40/20!

I drove 9000 miles in 3 months with the conti sport contact uhp and really thought they were great tires, according to many mags the best tires we can purchase at the moment for our suv.

I now have been able to test the Vredestein ultrac and they were amazing around the Saschsenring racetrack and are great on the road...never heard of these tires before but ended up listening to the HRE guy on Germany and these are the lightest tires available but these shouldn't be used under any circonstances when snowing!

EDIT: sorry a little OT, i just realized you wanted all season tires...my bad

Do we all agree that the 21 amg rims with 295/35/22 tires are not the best if you are located were it snows a lot? I should go with narrower tires like 265?
Thanks :-)

Ya, naturlich - besser: For winter, either look in your OM for a smaller rim size recommendation or look at your full size spare and see what that rim size is. That will be the smallest you can run and will be more suitable for a dedicated winter tire than a 20-21" rim!

We have 17" wheels and Scorpion Snow and Ice on the GLK for winter (wonderful on the cold, clear highway or the icy hill roadss) but 20" AMG rims for summer with dedicated summer tires.

On my second set of Continental DWS, waaaaay better than the stock continental cross contact UHP (which in my opinion is complete junk by comparison).

They come in 295-40-20

Are you talking on the snow and cold winter for the DWS?

In the dry and summer time I would logically assume the uhp should be better

Nope, DWS is STILL easy better than UHP. Not to mention UHP has no grip, they ride very rough, and worst of all they are almost 4 lbs heavier per tire (hence their inferior performance).

If any of you still have the UHP tires, I urge you to get rid of them ASAP

The W166 ML63 comes standard with a 20" wheel & tires (9" width). I ordered the optional OEM 21" wheels (10" width) which will come with 295/35R 21 summer tires. My thought is to purchase the 20" OEM wheel (so that it still looks good & factory) & buy a good 20" winter/snow tire. I'd get 4 additional TPMS sensors (for the 20's) installed. That way I'd have 2 complete sets & can do the changes myself, at home.

So question is:

What is the best 265/45R 20 winter tire for the 20" wheels?

Is the ExtremeContact™ DW tire available in 315/30/22?

I can't find the correct size even 295/35/21

According to my Mb dealer the best, at the moment, are the Dunlop 3D winter tires... Sorry to admit but i had to double Check!
The site below convinced me in buying them

I ran my stock 255 tires for winter last year and it looked like crap with the fender flares. People would stare at the vehicle (not inn a good way). I want to run a 295 tire this winter (all-season).

I live in the Denver area and just picked up a couple of new AMG's. One being the ML63 w/perf. Pkg. and looking for all seasons. How do the Conti work on slushy or snow packed roads? Do you put on a snow tire for winter or just stick with the Conti?

I've finally given in and just put true winter tires on my AMGs (Pirelli Sottozero Siere 2). No issues at all - great in the crap and awesome when the roads are dry and I'm pushing the car.

That's what I was thinking for a winter only tire, which means from late Oct. to April. Are you using the Conti DWS for the rest of season? I was entered my vehicle info. On tire rack but neither tire was listed in my size. Are you using a different size tire?

Ok thanks. It just started snowing pretty good here so hopefully I'll only encounter slush in the morning. Of all the days this week my lifted 200 series Land Cruiser had t be at the shop. Lol. Time to upgrade the ML63 and CLS63 tires for all season driving

I bought a couple of these tires and will get two more as soon as they are needed. After three thousand miles there is no sign of wear detectable. They track straight and run silent. :-)
