Mercedes better do something fast on the ML55
I just think that Mercedes is waiting to get destroyed by the new X5 4.8is. The new X5 is supposedly going to have a V10 engine and should be quite a bit faster than the previous top model the 4.6is. What has Mercedes done? Well nothing and its about time that they launch a new ML55 or maybe even a 65 to compete because otherwise they will just get blown away in the top end of luxury SUV's. It doesn't help if Porsche has also launced its own high end performance SUV in the Cayenne S and Turbo either

V10 in the 4.8? Can I have some of what your smoking up it seems your on some pretty good stuff. 
The V10 will simply not have enough torque especially if its anything like the M5s V10.
ML was never king of the hill in the SUV category. Wait for the next generation model.

the X5 4.8 w/ V10
I have realized that the 4.8 will not be a V10 sorry for that information but I have heard that there are future plans to create a BMW SUV with a V10 engine. We do know that the new M5 will have a V10 in it so Mercedes will obviously have to speed up the current ML55 if it wants to have any chance at catching up to the 4.8 or the possible V10

I have done my reseach too.... and actually the ML55 is quicker than a current X5 4.6is...stock to stock...based on a Road Test: BMW X5 4.6is vs. Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG at Motor Trend.

The ML55 pulls strongly, especially as speeds increase; from rest to 100 the AMG takes only 16.48 sec, while the X5 needs 17.23 sec. Stomp on the ML55's accelerator, the revs come up, and you feel like you're aiming a speeding locomotive."
the 4.8is will pull as strong as the ML55 does over 60 to 100 due to a more displacement --> torque
Besides, if so I am thinking to chip my ML55 with people from H&S and replace the stock filter for a K&N one..

373hp? Can they put that in writing and gaurantee that? My ML55 has the RENNTech ECU and Carbonfiber highflow airbox already and I dont know if its really at 373hp...probably more liek 367hp!!

BenzoAMGpower, my car still bone stock...and I will dyno in a few week to get a baseline. The H&S chip will be shortly and I will re-dyno and post.
I had chipped all the AMGs that I had with H&S and they made an awesome job, for example my C32 with H&S chip and BMC filter was doing 310 rwhp & 305 rwtq (91 octane)..which is a 374 hp & 368 ft.lb (498 Nm) quite impressive if you see the velues that H&S claim 376 hp & 485 Nm:

..........MB is going to discontinue the ML-class all together. So, a more powerful ML55 is out of the question. On the other hand, I have reliable information that there will be a supercharged G55 out for 2005. But the G is a totally different thing altogether. I just had a Kleemann supercharger placed in my G55 and the car is scary to drive. You can instaneously mow down mount Rushmore with power of this brickhouse. I have to be very careful driving it. Based on this, I have doubts that Mb will release a mass production supercharged G55. But it appears to be in the works. If they do make it, BMW 4.8is will seem like a toy car. Afterwards, MB is not sure what to do with the G-class. There is sometype of a G and ML fusion that might replace these cars including an AMG version. Perharps only then will MB and BMW be in true competion in this area.

. cause here in sweden you can always put your self on the waiting list for the new modells of those modells mb already has in their line.

This weeks Autoweek says that the new GST/R-Class will share the same platform as the new ML (unibody construction, air suspension) and be built along side the ML in Alabama. There was also some mention of the R-class having a long enough wheel base to accomodate 7 passenger seating.
I have also read some information about the G class being discontinued after 2005. During the last year of production there will be a 25 year edition (production started in 1979) with some kind of bigger motor- unknown to me if it will be SC or not.
