Bump
Does any one hear this whinning noise near the left wheel. This sound is very loud when the engine is cold and makes quiet( but still I can hear it) on warm.
I think it can be the oil pump. Are they making any troubles?

Sounds normal to me as all M156s. No Cam/lifter/adjuster noise. The fast paced ticking is the injectors, nothing to worry about. I couldn't hear the whining, however if you have a whistling noise it could be related to the PCV/breather hose.

Good luck.

The More I am reading this forum the more i am worried about engine in my car. It runs great, have no leaks of oil and the coolant level is very stable. I drove about 1500 miles after I bought him.
I came from Poland and Here MB dealer dont know anything about the service of this car in the USA. Maybe someone from Here can help me to gry the full service records from MB? Should I be worried about the headbolts?
Here's the vin 4JGBB77E68A316985

They updated the headbolts halfway through 2011, starting with engine serial 60,658. Since yours is a 2008 -and assuming it was never replaced- I'd say you have the early headbolts from factory. Your car has a delivery date of 25/8/2007 and the engine serial number is 17,324 so there is 43,335 engines produced after your car with the old headbolts.
The dealer is the only source to give you a service record of the car, but most of them won't. I tried it in Canada with my E55 and in Saudi Arabia with the ML and they all refused to provide info, not even answering a yes/no question.
The headbolt issue appears to be more common in North America. No one heard/seen it in the Gulf States -and there's an AMG under every rock-.

Only way is to remove the covers, I don't know if you'll be able to see them with the camshafts in place. So If you went to the trouble of removing the cams, only thing left to do is replace the bolts

Here's a pic of the head with the cams in place, actually you can see a part of the bolt.

The old design vs new

Thanks SoloWing.
Can You tell me what would You do on my place ?
Should I remove the covers and check the headbolts or maybe regulary check the coolant level?
Maybe there is a member on this forum who can check for me service history of my car?

I will be changing the bolts along with the lifters/tappets -and the cams if there's wear-.
I plan on keeping the car for a few years, and paying now to fix the issues is way better than unexpected complete & catastrophic engine failure.
Some people prefer to monitor coolant level, the problem is there might not be any leak and the bolt might snap suddenly wreaking havoc on the engine.
Same can be said about the lifters failing and dropping the valve in the cylinder (seen 3 cases).

You can actually replace the head bolts one at the time without even having to remove the heads.
