Modified AEM dryflow air filter fits ML55/W163
Hello All,
After recently acquiring my 2000 ML55 I realized when parts shopping that AEM didn't offer a dryflow filter for this platform. Having used them on my C55 for over a year with great results, I was disappointed they weren't available for the ML so I began looking by filter size and stumbled upon one that I thought might fit.
The AEM filter that I found and ended up getting to work after modifying is part number 28-20408 and is originally for a few different GM vehicles I believe. From looking at photos and comparing dimensions I thought it was worth a shot to see if I could get it to fit. After some precise exacto knifing work with less is more in mind as to not cut too much off, I was able to get it just right.
Filter used:
The dimension for the stock filters are 224x292mm
The dimensions for the AEM filter are 249x314mm
You can check out the video link below to see the process. I will update in upcoming videos of further results, mpg's etc. Initial results are promising and I sense mpg's will increase slightly, time will tell. The overall reason for liking these filters is the cost efficiency of a lifetime filter, no oiling required and the slight performance bump an added bonus. In this video I also cover breather hoses and intake baffle delete, you can skip ahead to around the 7min mark to get to the AEM filter.
