Made some little jumpers to go from the factory wiring to the new sub. This makes it easier to install because it makes the wires longer, but mostly I did it so that i didn't hack the factory wiring and can return to stock.
Here is the jumpers taped up and the factory enclosure filled with poly-fill.
You will have to use a pair of dykes or a file to knock off this tab above my finger, it's the alignment pin for the factory subwoofer.

Hooked it right up to my amp for the MTX's, works fine, using the Black and Red connectors, but what are the other 2 for? To wire it in stereo? I see you connected all 4 to your quartz.

great write up and mods. Random question, if you're still hanging out here. I just added the HK sub to my system (had already done a full HK speaker swap but never the sub as I have 2 x 15" MTX's), but wanted to add the HK sub for when I haul stuff and take my box out.

Anyone have a parts list for the change from running boards to side skirts?
Good to know you can just pull off that rear chrome strip. I would probably black out the chrome below the side windows as well.
The little cheesy touches on the inside I'll pass.

How did the subwoofer swap sound? Is it really an improvement? For my E550 I hard wire tapped directly into the low level input to the HK amp and ran a separate self-contained 10" sub/amp. I loved it for 5 years, only running about 1/3 gain to balance with the rest of the HK system, but this may be a simpler path. If I opt to go with a separate sub again I'll probably try one of these new units that sits within the spare tire.
