Dealer Quote $900 for diff fluid and coolant refresh - too much?
Okay before I get roasted for stealership prices, I am getting the recall for the rear drain tube performed. I thought I would ask to get the diff and coolant refreshed because they’re due and I don’t feel like doing it myself.
I thought to myself, maximum $500, but the scheduler called me back and told me the estimate is $900. I could have sworn differential fluid refresh were $200-$250.
Anyone have some comparable dealership prices? For that cost I feel like I should just buy the fluids myself and drive out to my buddy’s shop 40 miles out to do it myself.

You could buy diff oil and genuine coolant for less than $150. Diffs take 15 minutes each at worst and coolant flush will depend on how many times you want to flush it. A good indy mechanic wouldnt need more than an hour to do this. $400 all up?

Easy peasy DIY stuff. The hardest part is lifting the car level to fill the diffs properly. I just used 4 ramps in the driveway. 3L of MB diff gear oil, about $45/bottle from FCP Euro if I recall correctly. I also purchased new drain and fill plugs for diffs and TC from local dealer, I think about $40 for all those, and a set of large stubby hex drivers for about $20 to get the rear drains open because I didn't have the size, 14mm hex I think. Add a hand pump for the fluid fill from Amazon, total is probably less than $250 to do both diffs and TC, which requires just ATF. The radiator drain and fill is super easy as well. Zerex G40 premix 50/50 was $18/Gal at Napa and I used 2+ gallons changing the radiator. Lets say $300 or less in supplies and an hour or 2 max for any indy euro shop if you don't want to do it.
