Old water pump part # ?

Hey @C43 Fun Haver

Could you please confirm if this water pump part number is now superseded?

A 278 202 02 10

If so do you know what year it was superseded?

My wp has a slow coolant leak I was told it was replaced in Oct 2022 so I'm surprised it's leaking so soon (only covered 12k miles in that time).

Thanks!

hey bud, so im looking at this part number A278-202-02-10 is a part number for a pulley but it doesn't seem to be an orderable part or a good part number now..
Gimme your vin on the ML because the part number on the water pump for my car is A157-200-01-07. Newest part number is A157-200-01-07-64. I opened a case with Mercedes because they typically don't show us that info but he gave me a date of 3/14/2019 that part number was changed with a 64 on the end.
where did you find that part number?

Thanks, that's great information - I found that part number on the pulley of the water pump. I had assumed it was the water pump number but you've cleared this up for me i.e. it's actually just the pulley part number.

My VIN is: WDC1660742A533314

So maybe my water pump was replaced a few years ago - crazy it's leaking so soon.

Here are some pictures of the leak.

I see the part number on the pulley like you said, I see why you thought that for sure. Looking at the parts catalog there's a "water pump cover x2" that will not come with a new assy. #30 is a qty of 2, will not come with the pump, #35 is a qty 4 and will come on it, not sure if 2 of these are used to block off ports depending on the model? Possible that one of these having a failing O-ring? Part numbers are 278-201-01-03 x2 027-997-06-45 x4 O-Ring.

Thanks, yes it is possible one of these o-rings has failed rather than the wp. I'll investigate further.

Water pump was leaking, replaced with an aftermarket part (GRAF). Also replaced all idlers (FEBI), belt tensioner (Gates) and belt (Genuine). Thankfully tstat and coolant lines did not break, are only a few years old.

For a reference point, I have a 2013 e63s212 and that had the old part number. When I had to replace my thermostat, I had to make sure that I married up the proper old thermostat part number as well. Otherwise I would’ve had to change them both to the new number. Without looking at a parts list, I imagine that the design changed between 2013, 2014 when there was a facelift for the E class and split cooling added… though my 13 does have split cooling from the factory.
