BlueTec outdoes Porsche Cayenne diesel

"Porsche has announced plans to offer two new models in the United States.
...the company confirmed the Cayenne Diesel will become the brand's "first compression-ignition car in the USA." It has a 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 245 PS (180 kW / 242 hp) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph)." --WorldCarFans.com
So the horsepower between the two is a virtual tie, but the ML has 49 more lb ft of torque. and is rated at 0.3 s faster to 60, and 2.5 mph higher top speed.
Like the 911 Turbo. Porsche rated at 3.5 0 -60 tested at 2.8
The Porsche 911 Turbo S. Rated at 3.1 0 -60 tested at 2.7 0 - 60
They are also stating it should be rated in the low 30s US mpg range.
Maybe they found the balance of economy and speed. I am sure most car companies would say consumers looking for MPG are not that concerned about speed. Mostly .3 hundreds of a seconds worth.
The Porsche Cayenne is a formidable SUV and, when equipped with the automaker's oil-burning mill, it's relatively fuel efficient too. Now, thanks to slew of enhancements, the diesel-powered Cayenne's fuel economy gets bumped up to around 32 miles per gallon.
The German automaker announced that the diesel-powered Cayenne has received a minor overhaul and now features a cleaner-burning diesel engine that's both more powerful and fuel efficient than before. Output has been bumped up by five ponies to 245 horsepower and Porsche claims the oil-burning SUV consumes only 7.2 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. That's 39.2 imperial miles per gallon (32.7 mpg U.S.). The added horsepower improves acceleration slightly, with the 0-62 miles per hour dash coming in at 7.6.
Engine modifications are limited to an all-new variable geometry turbocharger, a redesigned crankshaft, an increase in injection pressure and a reduction in weight. All told, Porsche's diesel mill now weighs 44 pounds less than the outgoing engine. Still, the oil-burning Cayenne tips the scales at a hefty 4,586 pounds, so 32.7 mpg seems rather impressive to us.
This is one serious Porsche Diesel.
