Hey checkin' in here. First time Benz owner. Traded in a Jag. Bought an 08 GL450. I also own a '13 Heritage Softail Classic. I do most all my own mechanical work and have a lot of $$$ in tools.
I've designed custom crankcase breather systems for cars and motorcycles and promptly do away with the engine damaging EPA systems that route it back to the intake. This is bad, bad, bad for engines in more ways than you can imagine. I'll also be adding an electric vacuum pump to keep a vacuum in the crankcase under load.
That's all for now.

New to MBWorld, Excited to be here!
Hi everybody! I’m katie
Just joined mbworld a few days ago! I’ve always used the forums here to help me troubleshoot my cars and learn more about them, so I figured it was about time I created an account. The first car I ever drove was my dad’s W220 S600 and I’ve been hooked ever since!
Looking forward to learning more, contributing to the community, and most likely buying/selling here in the future!
I am the proud owner of a W204 C63 Coupe and a W210 E320 Wagon. Two very different machines but both wonderful in their own ways

Quote: Hi All,

Great to be a part of the community now. Recently sold my 2016 W205 C63s Estate, and getting a W204 2012 C63 (hopefully by the end of the week). Will post photos as soon as I get it.
What made you decide to “downgrade”
As a W204 C63 owner I don’t consider that a downgrade at all, just curious your reason?

I thought around '99 or so. Great classic car. By the way, cars nearly as old as I am didn't have a/c or radios lol.

It has its little quirks here and there. It isn’t perfect but I love it so I’m willing to put in the effort to fix her up.
As somebody in their 20s, having a car with only a cassette player was wild lol not even optioned with CD changer! But I make due

Perfect! My first love was a 1975 Porsche 911 with a 8-track, playing Urban Cowboy 24/7. I had to slide under the car to adjust the clutch every 200 miles or so. Absolute bliss, actually.

New to me w164 Ml500 SOOOO many issues
Hello All,

So unfortunately, my entry into the bens world has been horrific so far. I bought a 2007 ML500 with 117k miles and with in a week there have been more issues than any other car I had in my life. I have no idea how the seller hide all the issues. What I thought and my researched told me would be a good deal turned out to be the worst car experience of my life so far. How I still fully believe that once I fix the issues It will be a great car.

Let’s start from the beginning:

I lost my Lexus in a storm that flooded the NY area so I had to buy a new car. I have a baby on the way so I looked for an SUV with good safety features but I didnt like the Lexus RX. My research lead me to the w164. I researched all the negative and positive on the w164 and thought i found a good candidate from a private. When test driving and looking for all the issues the internet told me to look for, It drove great and I saw no issues. I told him I’d take it. He asked if i could come back next week because he needed the car until his new one arrived. I said ok asked him to take it to the mechanic and to get it checked out by the mechanic in the mean time. When I can back the next week it had 2k more miles on it and he didnt take it to Mercedes’ or a mechanic. He gave me an excuse that his family life got in the way and he didnt have the time. I unfortunately bereaved him. And purchased the car.

Within one week of ownership all the stuff he hid came to light. And I’ve spent over $1k in repairs and its still climbing. When I say he scammed me, I mean he even switched the tires to bold ones. I didnt think to recheack them. That’s my fault for trusting him.

Anywho here are the issues I’m dealing with and will fix 1 by 1. Ordered by most annoying.

Issues:

Heater: The heater is not blowing hot air. Had one of the models replaced and will bring the car in on Monday to get the thermostat replaced. Hopefully this will fix it. I have already gotten sick driving the car in the cold.

Oil leaks: There were 2 big leaks got them fixed, but again I have no idea how he hid them from me. When I checked the car the first time, no signs of oil leaks (however I never lifted the car to check under either, but I didnt check under as much as I could on the street and saw no signs of oil leaks on his driveway. However after parking it in my garage for 1 day I have huge oil spots.

This problem is resolved as much as it can be but i will have to keep an eye on the oil.

Tires: like I said. I checked the tire tread when I first checked the car. they were good. Not new, but good. I picked up the car at night and didnt bother to recheck. the first night of rain fall i noticed lack of grip. Checked the tires and they were now all bold. Like who the heck does that.

Bought new tires, which are expensive.

Front end:

Lower control arm bushing need to be replaced

Brakes and rotors need to be changed.

Check engine light came on:

need to replace the gas’s cap and the gas door. Like he broke the door and glued it back on. Again he must have did this during the extra week he had it. I checked the gas tank door when looking at the body. It was fine then.

Rear view mirror:

it doesn’t stay in position. I have to constantly move it or reposition myself to see behind me.

Electrical: (So many issues don’t even know all of them.)

Keep getting light and turn signal warnings. Changed all the bulbs but still get these warnings intermittently while driving (rear turn signal, driver side break light, etc)
Trunk release bottom doesn’t work.
Hood open warning came on while driving. I fixed this, the sensor came loose.
Driver side mirror doesn’t move when pressing the controls.
Side mirrors dont fold in
sides mirrors dont auto adjust when reversing,

Well that’s all for now. I’ll update as I fix and find more issues.

That's quite a list! There are good people on this forum who can help you with those problems but unfortuantely I'm not one of them. I'll look forward to reading the suggestions that people smarter than me give you.

Hello, greetings from Nigeria. I’m Prince Somorin (no worries I won’t ask you to send me a check 😁 ).

Pictures include some of the Mercedes Benz that I’ve owned over 33 years in the USA. I retired back home to Nigeria and decided to get a MY09 GL450. Really wanted a GL550 but I couldn’t find one in my price range in SoCal.

Hope to continue to learn more about the brand especially in order to maintain this modern one.

Thanks.
