loooong story
born in france to german parents, there was already a connection to daimler...
a relative used to race benz cars before wwi, and ended up entwicklungschef before wwii...
my dad had a small truck company, and for years, the hardware had to have a star...
so when i turned 15, i naturally went to stuttgart for a summer job.
it was so great ! i assisted engineers working at the cooling dept for trucks. had the time of my life. an older engineer spent a lot of time showing me everything, the zero db room, the wind tunnel (oddly a ferrari f40 was inside at the time)' and of course the einfahrbahn (the test track with the infamous banked curve).
had some chaps working at promotheus (which later gave us sat nav and other stuff) provided a car, we took the curve at full speed, looked like a roller coaster !
a few days later, we did the same with a bus, it was fun as well...
anyway, later on, after two peugeot cars, i had a chance to get a sl500, but went for a porsche 993 c4 cab instead. it was followed by a maserati spyder f1 - i know, i had it coming-' then a maranello, an aston martin v8, a boxster s for the wife in between, then a mini cooper s (weird eh ?) a touareg, i finally got my hands on a new gl 350 with the amg kit.
it´s a great car, i really love it !
the forum isn't totally innocent in that decision, as i silently checked on the pros and cons of the car before pulling the trigger.
thanks for that
