Red face 2007 CLK350 start issues

I need advice. I'm not a mechanic and don't know anything about cars. I had issues starting my car, called AAA to get it towed but before he came it started and I was able to drive it fine for 4 miles and the CHECK ENGINE came on while I was on a stop sign trying to make a left turn and the car vibrated. Made it to a parking lot and stopped the engine. AAA came in an hour and started the engine again and no problems whatsoever. The AAA gentleman attached a code reader and showed some random numbers like C04, C05. He said that there was nothing wrong with the car or might be some of my cylinder not firing. I drove the car the next day to drop it off at the Mercedes dealership for a Service A (since it's due in 7days) and mentioned the issues from the night before. Advisor sent me an email with NO detailed parts and labor estimate of $2376.04 for LEFT CAMSHAFT TIMING ADJUSTER DIAGNOSIS AND REPLACEMENT.
I am 2hrs away and no mechanical knowledge of the cars. My vehicle only has 51980 miles and I've always sent it for service at the same Mercedes Dealership (my advisor is out on vacation). Does this sound legitimate estimate? Can I drive my car back (2hrs away) and hold off if really there is a camshaft issue? I don't know what that part is? He said that it could ruin my engine and I will not pass an emission test(our DMV does not require emission test). ANY ADViCE would greatly help! I hate getting ripped off because I'm a woman

u may wanna post this on CLK section of the forum...
first, i'd read check engine light codes to make sure what the errors are...
then, take it to local mechanic who specializes in mercedes for repair as it'll cost a lot less than a dealer...
it could be just a sensor that needs to be replaced...

unfortunately this is a very prominent issue for clk350/550 and e350/550. Over at the CLK (w209) forum we have a registry where you can search a cars vin number to see if it falls within the problem years BEFORE you buy it. However, in light of your situation i would definitley replace sensors first, then have a non-dealer, mercedes or european car specialist look at it. this will definitley help keep your cost lower.

Sorry it's been a few weeks. Thank you for the response you guys. I had my car serviced (oil changed) and took my car to out local GMC dealer in town with a Certified Mercedes Mechanic look and test the car. He couldn't find any code(s) and he said it drove fine and there was nothing wrong with my car. We ended buying a code reader as well just in case. I researched why cars get a CEL come on. I found out that sometimes it's something to do with your oil. Well my car was due for an oil change (6 days prior) when the start issue and CEL came on. The only year I put at least 10K miles (only have 51K). So I'm hoping that's one of the reason. I'm still mad at the advisor for the estimate he said. Schumacher sent an email for their service survey and my husband gave them an honest reply and obviously they did not want to hear a negative survey. They haven't even sent us a response whatsoever. Planning to sell my car and get an Audi or BMW with a better resale value. It's sad but I shouldn't have any issue for my Luxury Car with very low miles and paid so much for it. Have a good weekend guys and thanks
