What is your suggestion for a 1st time MB buyer?
Hello all,
I am a college student looking to buy my first car and I absolutely love Mercedes-Benz. However, being a college student, I am on a bit of a budget and can't afford to dish out money hand over first on repairs and such that people seem to usually associate MB with.
I am fairly saavy with cars and plan on doing all of the basic maintenance and using this awesome site for help with any issues should I buy a Mercedes but would still like to make a smart purchase for my first Mercedes. My final purchase price budget is about $4000-5500.
I've done quite a bit of research over the last few months and am not 100% sure of what I want but I am looking at the W210 chassis from 2000-2002 and have recently heard rave reviews about the W124 and the longevity of that model, minus the head gasket (?) issues. I also have a friend who's family has purchased 5 W202 models (C280s from 99-2000) and they claim to be one of the most reliable MB models. I see that the W210 shares the same M112 engine and 722.6 transmission so I kinda see those as the same in terms of mechanical aspects.
Do you have any suggestions on which model and year I should be on the look out for when making my first purchase? Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated. Thanks!
