CT about to take the MB plunge!
Greetings from the Northeast USA,
I've been reading ad nauseum about every possible event in linear time that can occur just by buying an MB. Reliability, maintenance, quirks, service contracts, dealers, private sales, dealer repairs, indy repairs, turbo 12 v supercharged v natural 8, speeding tickets, speeding tickets, reckless driving, speeding tickets et al.
I've decided, like many of you, that I'd rather drive a pre-loved MB instead of a run-o-the-mill mass produced grocery getter, and I've (somewhat) narrowed down my wish list to:
2005-6 S55
2001,2005-6 E55
2007-9 E550 4MATIC
I've weighed the benefits of buying with a loan ( to free up cash for maintenance and repairs), buying a service contract (must then buy at a dealer), and I'm hoping to find a well maintained mid-high mileage car that
will last for a few years without breaking the bank. Would LOVE the V12 cars too but I have to play the somewhat safer hand with the reliability & lower priced repair costs on the V8.
The commitment is made and the search is on. Looking forward to the experience. My folks had a 1976 300TD and a 1991 420sel, but I'm not yet 50 and i'm a family man with a need for torque and 4 doors. Plus I like leather. My wife likes leather. My dog likes leather.

Welcome to MBWorld. Of the choices, I'd go with the 2006 E55. You can get some great deals on the w211 and that'd be the first year of the facelift. You'd get the power and performance of the great V8 beast and all the luxury appointments. W211 is a classic style.
