Hey! I just bought a 1979 300D two days ago. It's not my first classic car, my first diesel, or my first Mercedes, but it is my first classic diesel Mercedes...
This is a rust-free, 80,000 mile original car with an as new as it could be interior. But it's not without it's gambles... I haven't gotten the engine to start yet.
I've always wanted a w123, and after viewing a ton of Kent Bergsma's videos, I decided I could handle this car. I'm not concerned about the inner workings of the engine, it cranks beautifully, and it has it's history of oil changes. With only 80,000 miles on the car, I have faith that it's going to be a great runner.
Problems I've found so far...
1) bad glow plug on cyl. number 1 (old loop style plug. I think I'll upgrade)
2) Fuse for glow plug relay has been replaced with a wire.
3) Throttle linkage is hodge-podged together with a mangled spring.
4) Car obviously didn't stop running when the key was turned off, as there is a pull kill switch on the dash.
If I have questions about specific things, like the throttle linkage rebuild, where is the best place to post them?
Welcome to MBWorld! Loving the W123. We have a 300TD wagon that we are working on in house right now. If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to let me know.
