New track toy, old MB!
Hey all,
Just picked up a 2 owner W208 CLK55 that im going to dive into here soon. Plans are to pretty much follow Quant's lead here on weight reduction, suspension, driveline, etc. Reinventing the wheel is generally a bad idea on an out of production specialty car, right? I've been searching threads and doing my due diligence, so figured it was time to post. I've been tracking cars for a long time and have always wanted to try a MB. Right price, right time, right place...boom.
Now: bone stock. Black/Black, COMAND, moonroof, 17" chrome monoblocks (these have GOT to go).
Plan: aero (new front bumper cover/splitter, rear ducktail spoiler, carbon vented hood), Stoptechs, headers/exhaust, CCW classic wheels, coilovers, engine management/cooling, and some SERIOUS weight reduction.
I'll post pictures as it progresses. Its a really nice blank slate now.

Welcome to MBWorld. Grats on the new project AMG!
Sourcing aftermarket parts for the w208 will be a challenge as it's now several generations old. Might have to either go custom or scour the classified for partouts. You're in Socal so hit up Benzworks in Huntington Beach. They might be able to help you source the parts you need. Most of us MB guys in socal use them for our work as they have a STAR diagnostics machine.
Let us know if upgrading the lighting is also on your todo list. We have more modern whiter brighter plug and play canbus LED/HIDs that will go a long ways towards updating her from an aesthetics and performance standpoint.

Michael, thanks for the reply. I pretty much figured the mass market offerings have closed up by now in favor of the newer models, but the big coupe just spoke to me. There's still enough commercially available to get it started, and any hardcore stuff I'll have fabricated or check with Benzworks. Lighting is definitely on the list, from bumper to bumper and all points inbetween.

Cool. Got any pics of her in her current condition? Be sure to start a build thread, especially if you're going to be fabricating parts as it's always great to see one ofs!
