Hello from France
I'm an Irish expat living in France.
I have owned Mercedes diesel cars from the 70's and in my transport business owned Mercedes tractor units for many years so I'm a long time fan.
I've visited the factory in Sindelfingen when I bought a new E 300 D some years ago.
My old E250 gave up the ghost after 20 years faithful service and I now currently own a 2009 E320 CDI 211 model.
I'm retired and now live on-board our 42' motor cruiser on the canal du Robine and travel along the French canal du Midi, coast and cruise to Spain. I write marine travel books as a hobby.
Long story short. Lived up around Belfast, (Templepatrick) and had a road tanker business in Mallusk. Because of the 'troubles' I took the family boating on Lough Neagh, Belfast Lough and down to Fermanagh.
I got bitten by the boating bug, after family had flown the nest and a divorce set up a refrigerated international trucking business. Finally retired and cruised my the 33' boat from Belturbet in Cavan down to the South of France single handed.
Met a lovely French lady, bought an ex Emerald Star 42' ex hire boat from Carrick-on-Shannon, renovated it and we both cruised it back down via the Atlantic coast to Dunkirk up through Belgium, Holland, Germany and down through France back to our mooring in Narbonne. You can see that trip if you log on to Trawler Forum, Home page, Voyagers and boaters on the go'. scroll down for 'Ireland to the Mediterranean Part 1.
I still have the original 33' Birchwood and she's for sale if you fancy cruising the Can du Midi etc.
