Hello, I'm a new member, and I recently arrived home with a new old car, 1999 SL500, and knowing nothing about Mercedes, I have a few questions I'm hoping to have answered.
There seems to be references to model R129 on some websites, what does this mean and how do I know if my car is this model? What is the significance of the AMG stamped on the wheels?
I bought this car in Phoenix and drove it home to Alberta to do a few fix ups on it. It has 44000 miles on it and is in great shape. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Welcome! Nice looking SL. AMG stands for Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach. Aufrecht and Melcher were business partners operating a racing engine builder in Großaspach, Germany. Founded in the late 1960s, it is now part of Daimler-Benz. AMG is the performance model, or division, of M-B.
