88 560SEC Odometer issues

Hey all...I have a 1988 560SEC that I believed had 69K when purchased a year ago. I drove it to Kansas City (3 hour cruise x 2) and determined that the speedometer is quite accurate, but the miles were not adding up - to the tune of roughly 70% of what should have been the case. I have no idea what the odometer issue is, and it would appear that if this has been a problem since new, then the car has closer to 100K. Is there anybody out there that has any info on this matter?

Welcome! Please post a photo of the SEC.

What size wheels and tires are on the vehicle? This can be a source of inaccuracy. Something is not adding up if the speedo and the odo are out of sync.

Tire size

Tire size is P205/65R15. I believe that is OE size. This has got me absolutely baffled.

Have you done much searching? Seems a somewhat common situation.

Runnablilty issues....

Hey there guys! My 88 560SEC is having a real difficult time starting. You need to crank the living crap out of it and finally she'll hook up. Not too bad when it's hot, but warm or cold? It also misses severely at launch. Still only about 70K on it.
Any thoughts?

Ignition system, Go through the plugs, wires, modules and sensors that affect ignition.

Or fuel. Check lines, filter and pumps.

Which seems more likely to you?

I was thinking that the EGR valve might be a culprit insofar as the cold start issue was concerned. I'm pretty sure that the miss is related to ignition, but I'm not familiar enough with the system to isolate the problem. At idle, it wants to completely cut out for an instant and then will idle fine for another few seconds and it occurs again. I don't know what the issue is with the stutter at launch though.
