Newbie
Hello, and thank you for letting me join. I am fairly new to Mercedes, but I now have 2 of them, so I'd better be careful here not to wear out my welcome by asking too many questions at once. My cars are a 2003 CLK320 convertible and a 2007 S class 320L, but I would like to ask a question or 2 about the CLK, mainly looking for opinions as to what you think would be the effect of things I am thinking of doing. The car has 18" AMG wheels, which have led a hard life, but I am in 2 minds about getting them refurbed (and if I did I would like them painted body colour, which is 359), but I would like to know how a change to 17" wheels would soften the ride, which is a little abrupt at times on the rubbish roads we have here in the foothills of the Pennines. Does anybody ever do this?
Secondly, the roof. When I got it the pins holding the boot divider were missing entirely, so I fitted new ones, then the struts are too feeble to push the switch hard enough, so I by-passed that as an experiment. Now it says the roof is "in operation", but nothing happens, and there is no error message at all. the windows go down, but that is the end of the performance. What am I missing (beyond everything probably)?
