Any fintail owners on here?

Just purchased a 1962 fintail and having a ball driving it and learning about it. A couple of questions I have are what is the small socket beside the fuse box for? And what is recommended top steady cruising speed? Seems to be pushing it to get much beyond 60mph..

Welcome! Great looking classic MB!

Says top speed over 100mph so 60mph seems too low to be "pushing it". What is the rpm at 60mph? What work has been done on the engine, transmission and axle?

No idea on rpm without a tachometer but just from.a seat of the pants feel the engine really starting to work. No work done to anything that I know of and the supporting documents it doesn't look likely. The specs page says 3.90 final drive gear and according to an online calculator that nets about 3500 rpm at 60.

1967 230 Fintail (W110) 1967 250SE (W108) 1972 280 SE 3.5 (W108) 1979 280SE (W116)
That's a clean looking Benz. Wow!
Can't think what socket you're referring to. Can you share a picture?

Which model is that? My '67 230 will happily cruise at 60-70mph, but I wouldn't push it above that for any length of time.
They may have claimed 100mph when new for the manual transmission (auto was slower) but don't forget this car is 60 years old!
