2016 E400 4matic Coupe P2101 code

Hi guys and gals,

All the way up in Northern Alberta Canada. Had a long cold snap for over 3 weeks with -47 with windchill. My car isn't happy atall.

Do you mind describing the issue? Please also state the model of the vehicle. From what you presented in your public profile, it says a 2016 E 400, in that case is it a new to you vehicle (used vehicle)?

2016 E400 4matic Coupe bought used 2nd owner 62,000kms on Engine.

Ok so the other day I cold started it and went inside for 5mins came back out and I heard it revving highly like way past 1000rpm by its self but dropped down to idle as I walked up. Check engine light was on but I didn't scan the car I turned it off and on and the light went away. Today I was driving down the highway and after about 2hrs straight driving the car starting misfiring lost all Power and smoking out of the exhaust from unburnt fuel. I'm guessing the Throttle body wasn't opening atall. I pulled over shut the car off plugged in scan tool and got 9 codes starting with P2101 Throttle Actuator. I cleared all the codes restarted the car and everything was running smoothly and running perfectly again. After another few hours I reached the city and bam check engine light again car running perfectly but P2101 back again.

For the cold start bit, was your car parked outside? In those negative temperatures, the 400 engine idles around the 1000rpm mark and then dips down after 30 seconds in average weather. But with extreme freezing temperatures, it could've made the car hover around the 1000rpm mark longer.

iam well aware of all of that thank you. This is my 3rd benz. All of this behavior is at -30 ambient tempatures and -40 and colder with windchill. The car was revving way over 1000rpm when I went outside and dropped to its normal warm idle of 600rpm. It was already warm enough to have dropped from its 1000rpm cold warm up rpm. I do know the difference between 1000rpm and 3000rpm. I'm going to check the connections tmr maybe clean the Throttle body inspect the return spring ect. I called the dealer that part doesn't fail often and they didn't sell one of them on all of 2021. Still the part can fail. I have been reading and it could be a number of things even tho it's throwing the P2101 code it could be the TPS the PCM the ECU but unlikely ECU

Sorry to hear about the issue, is your vehicle in limp mode by chance?

I don't know if you have serious issues or not, but I can tell you that my 2015 E400 is definitely "grumpy" for a few minutes of driving after a cold start at temperatures like 15F. A couple of days ago, it took 10-15 minutes of driving on 40 MPH surface roads to reach normal operating temperature.

While the engine is warming up, the car accelerates sluggishly and shifts funny. Once it warms up, all is well.
