My E55 Story

My E55 Story
Hi everyone! Super excited to finally be part of the community. It’s definitely been a long time coming. I am 23 and I have been very blessed to spend some extensive time around some truly very stunning cars, one of which being an ‘06 E55.
When I was around 6 years old, my Dad came home with a used 2002 CLK55 AMG Cabriolet in silver which even to this day is one of my absolute favorite looking cars. I still remember that exact day, staring at him googly-eyed through the window in utter awe of such a car as a child. The W210/W203 design truly is timeless and I would honestly consider purchasing another down the road.
Anyways, about 4 years after that my dad and I stumbled across a 2006 E55 AMG with around 48k miles (this was 2009 at this point) and I was in LOVE with this car, and I could tell that he was too. He ended up trading the CLK55 on the E, and it has been in the family ever since. My family has definitely been through a lot of financial stress, but nonetheless the 55 still runs strong today, with 118,000 miles. After over 10 years being a garage queen, it became a DD in 2021 when my younger brother got his license and my family could not afford another car. (I was in college at the time) To make a long story short, I severed ties with my dad and since the E55 is technically his car, I no longer will be driving it most-likely. But this begs the question, what’s next?
I have been looking at ‘09 E63s lately and although I am very aware of the M156 head bolt issue, I am prepared to do VERY detailed analysis to ensure that this has been corrected from the factory if I go that route. I am planning to let the dust settle a bit and give it some time, but I am prepared for a $25-30k investment when the time comes to pull the trigger. Coil-overs will be a must also as the Airmatic in these cars is just a bit too mushy for my liking (especially for 500 HP), but again I am prepared to cover that along with ALL preventative and routine maintenance. I am VERY particular about my cars and am the type of person who never goes more than 5,000 miles on synthetic oil.
I really wanted to share my story and honestly hear from some others their perspectives on any recommendations for someone in my shoes to consider. I’m honestly shocked that I am already missing driving that car so much I’d love to hear any similar experiences also. Please keep it to respectful posts if we can. (And yes I knew the check engine light was on in the pic, I needed to replace the purge canister.)
