Advice on Two Cars
Hello everyone, I’m new to the group and was looking for some advice.
I’m in the market for a new benz, it will be my first. I’m no stranger to fixing anything, I’ve practically rebuilt my Yukon XL from the ground up. I’ve been doing some heavy research into what could make a solid enough cheap car to make my way into the MB world, and I am torn between a 2006 E320 CDI with 92k miles, and a 1996 C280 with 144k miles. The E320 is listed for $4500 and the C280 for $3300. The E320 supposedly doesn’t have a single thing wrong with it, and the C280 is having the vacuum pump for the power locks replaced by the current owner, and it will need new brakes soon as well as a new radio (it works fine, just a cracked screen). I’ve read just about every forum I could find on both of these. I know the C280 still is a vacuum powered transmission rather than electronic, which I heard is more reliable, and the E320 was the last year for the I6 that didn’t suffer from any major oil leaks like its successor did. I was hoping any of you could provide insight or advice on this topic, maintenance, or just anything to look out for when I check them both out in person. Thank you all!
