Noisy brakes

Hi all,

I've had my brakes checked by my local MB guy and then the dealer and they both tell me that my brakes are good and in working order but they squeak like hell at low speed. Anyone got any suggestions?

I never had luck fixing the stock brakes. I went to the dealer on a few occasions and they tried a few things to fix it. It would disappear for a few weeks and then come back. I had enough and switched. Another major factor for me was the dust...

Where is a good place to get them pads? And how are they compared to the EBC pads?

I replied to another thread on this subject regarding EBC pads vs Porterfields. I put EBC red stuff pads on my daughter's Rangs Rover supercharged sport that comes stock with big time dusting Brembo brakes. I was very disappointed with the reduction of dust that the EBC pads gave. The dust was reduced somewhat but they still gave off a hell of a lot of dust. I just had Porterfields put on my wife's S550 and the reduction of dust is incredible and no squeal.
I purchased the pads from Jerry at www.formymercedes.com

Did you guys just change the pads or did you have to do the rotors too? Cheers.

I bought them directly from Porterfield. I have never used EBC, but I have also never heard anyone say a single negative thing on the P's. I just did the pads...

I Might switch to porterfield too. RS4. Looks like they are priced not high anyway - and I can get my mechanic to put them on.

The dealer charges quite a bit - eventhough my service advisor works with management to help give me discounts.

But man - those brembo kits are SICKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

the brakes on my car squeal like crazy! Usually first thing in the morning when i back it out of the garage its very loud. Then after driving for a little while the noise is gone. Yesterday I was at my cousins house and had the car parked outside for a few hours. It was fairly cold and when I was backing down the driveway the noise was LOUD, like ridiculously loud! I think I should take the car in and see what the hell is causing this.

I installed all four, no point in having the fronts clean and the rears black in a few days...

2007 S550
I have owned 7 new Mercedes since 1991. My 2007 s550 is the only one that has squeeling brakes. Despite rants and rages to dealer, only fixes were temp at best. My decision is to never buy another Mercedes again. If a $100+ auto sounds like a junk car, why buy it. I could list several cars i have owned in the past 25years that I had to take to the Dealer just to be sure there were no problems(Infiniti, Lexus).Don't have to worry about Mercedes, something goes wrong a couple times a year. If brake pads cure the problem than Mercedes should replace them. In my case would be cheaper for them in the long run.

I went through this with a few brand new MBs and other marques, the only way we got it to stop was having the dealership replace the rotors and the squealing stopped for good. If the rotors are even just slightly out of spec they create a vibration which creates the squeal. Getting the dealership to replace the rotors needs to be done in the first few thousand miles and even then they are not so willing to do it, a few times i had to get the shop foreman involved. Our new 2010 Lexus squeals when the brakes are cold but this is due to very low dust pads Lexus recently switched to; the squeal goes sway completely in about a mile in normal driving...there is also very little dust with the new pads.

Also had porterfields

I had them put on locally about 2 weeks ago. Absolutely no squeal, got them from Gerry at formymercedes.com. Great guy. Unbeleivable how little dust is on the rims couldn't be happier, and no noise at all. (Knock on wood) I would have done it sooner if I knew. I changed them because the last service I had they said I had about 2 mil left on them, whatever that corresponds to in mileage you got me, since most of my driving is highway. There is less dust in front than back with the stock brakes by far. I am taking the car in today for rears even though they don;t need them.

You guys shouldn't have to pay to have quiet brakes (unless you want the low dust pads) the squeak can be corrected properly by your dealership, you just have to know what to push for.
