Fix for Rear Backup Camera Illumination at Night for 2015 and earlier S Class
I took my 2015 S550 to my dealership in Houston (very reputable) and have been advised that there is nothing that MBUSA claims it can do to fix the rear camera illumination issue (dark at night). My S550 has 360-degree cameras, and the dealership even installed new higher lumen LED lights above the license plate holder in an attempt to fix the problem. I was loaned a 2016 S550 for comparison, and it does not have the problem. All of the 2015 S550s at the dealership available to drive had the issue. My 2015 GL63 had the same issue with its 360-degree cameras, but Mercedes issued a firmware update that completely fixed the problem. I believe that MB can come up with a firmware update for those of us affected by this issue, inasmuch as the backup cameras are virtually useless at night for our cars. It would appear that MB could simply change the camera software to adjust the sensitivity of the CCD or CMOS light sensor to increase the lighting effect. To get this done, there may need to be enough of us requesting such an update to get Mercedes to address this problem.

They just said there was an update available and flashed the system. It was over a year ago. I'll pull my receipt when I get home and see if there are any numbers listed.

I also had the update done to my 2015 S550, but it did not fix the issue, but the update for my GL63 did completely fix the issue.

After installing a service update on my 2015 S550, the shop foreman replaced the camera and consulted with MBUSA Technical Assistance and was told that there is no fix for poor night vision on the 360-degree cameras aside from the service campaign software and that the poor night vision is a problem for all 2015 and earlier S Class cars. This is a shame since, as I reported before, I had the same issue with my 2015 GL63, and after application of a software fix from a Service Bulletin, the poor night vision was corrected

I had the service bulletin fixed as well, but there was no noticeable improvement. I wish it had worked for my 2015 S550, because a similar software fix worked perfectly for my 2015 GL63. Do you have the specific information about the software fix for your car?
