Shanghai Auto Show: 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Makes Its World Premiere

In the title for the following video showcasing the facelifted 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Youcar asks is it "Still the Best?" Of course, that's subjective, but Mercedes-Benz has certainly done its best to improve its flagship sedan, inside and out.

Don't know about you guys, but I really like it. Any love I had left for the 221 has now been lost to the 222.2. They really cleaned up the front imo.

Still will miss the 550 nameplate.

Yes the 560 represents top of the line, cream puff of the 80s, but to me 550 represented the modern car for the savviest of them all. While the 600 and 63s were for basketball players and movie stars, the 550 was for bankers, hedge funders, real estate moguls, lawyers and doctors. People who had other things to worry about than to care about whether or not they had an AMG or a V12. The 560 will become that, but to me that name has still got the 1980s Beverly Hills feel to me-- gaudy. 550 was smoother.

Benz has to switch it up every now and then to keep everyone excited. Plus, I guess they thought... the car is a 4.0 liter, 550 means nothing to us... so why not got back to our legacy...and differentiate ourselves from BMW's 550

They didn't. Headlights have same dimensions as the current one.

Look closer... they raised them ... as in cut off part of the bottom of the lights... all you would need is a new bumper to accommodate the new lights, hood and fender lines are the same.

221 headlights had the same dimensions, you could put a 2010 light in a car with a 2007 bumper no problem. 220s though had different dimensions, and you needed a new bumper AND hood! This 222, I believe you just need a new bumper.

As usual they found a way to sharpen it up and make the old one look passe. Old one always looked bland to me, and now even more so. Facelifted 221s were always sharper, not any more!

I know what you mean. I just wouldn't call it raised the metal is the same and we'll have to see how different the lower edge on the bumper is.

That said, the older headlights are technically inferior in any way but look much better IMO.

The triple eyebrow is very not elegant but the result of customer complaints, plenty of which here on this forum as well (car looks too much like a C-class from a distance due to the single eyebrow).
MB created a delineation between the number of led eyebrows (C=single, E=double, S=trouble).
The matrix LED will hopefully make it to the US this time.

I agree, the triple eyebrow is sort of gimmicky and not elegant. That said, if Vegas was taking odds, I'd bet we see multiple eyebrows on all the downmodels, sometime soon.
