Next generation S Class? You might want to think of a new W222!

Several months ago, I posted something about doing a survey/encounter group for MB. You may further recall, that I almost immediately deleted the post, as I did not feel comfortable with what I had written. Anyway, I just did the follow up survey and I thought I would share some thoughts, without breaching my Nondisclosure Agreement.

What was described as “the next new S Class Sedan” was on display, in what I sincerely hope was NOT the finished form. Mind you, this car was NOT the main subject of the survey, but merely an “added attraction,” if you will. The view from the rear was very nice, but the front end has become overly busy. The “new” interior made me want to vomit! I can’t tell you just what I saw, but to say that it was a MAJOR departure from the W222 interior we know and love would be an understatement. Based on what I saw, if the new car looks like this one, I can only hope that once it is unveiled, that I have enough time left to order the current year W222, because that’s what I will do. Regarding the vehicle that was the main subject of the survey, I SHOULD have vomited—but I kept my composure. Disgusting!

I really hate it when car designers "decide" for us what we should have.
The current trend of eliminating analog controls and consolidating everything in a one central control with multiple menus, haptic touch "buttons", the so called "clean and uncluttered dashboards", drives me nuts.
Had the new Panamera Turbo rental for a week in LA and could not wait to get rid of it, love my current S8 Plus but would not even look at the replacement that has the same idea as Porsche.
Drove a Mulsanne the other day, not really a car for me, too big, too slow, too ostentatious but the classic, cluttered interior with thousands of switches and buttons brought a tear to my eye.......
Maybe I'm just getting old.......

Sounds like the main attraction might have been an EV, or rather in MB terms an EQ.

You know, that was one of the things I really liked about the Genesis G90: There appeared to be a button, knob or a switch for EVERYTHING! I believe most everything could be controlled with the command unit, but if you just wanted to simply and immediately turn something on or off, up or down, there was a button, switch or a knob right there. The more and more I see of cars run by “iPads,” the less I like them.

EQ
i don't know if I hate that or not. Actual design aside, the minimalist approach is worrisome.

Be happy you still have a steering wheel. That's the next thing to go with autonomous driving

It's a personal choice but I find all those specific buttons far too busy and, being so low, probably distracting to look for. I think the new MB steering wheel w/ capacitance is better. As for the photo of the 2020, not to my taste.

The interior you have shown is for the Maybach SUV concept car, so none can be taken for an actual production interior. They provide design direction.

I remember how many people complained about the W222 interior supposedly being terrible with a mix of different designs. Yet here we are and it is recognized as the luxury car benchmark. Like others I wish they would just greatly expand their color and material palette...

I realize that, I was just posting that for reference to the OP post to see if there was any similarity to what he saw.

Makes sense. I just wanted to mention it since concept car interiors are often love/hate designs. Production interiors will be much less controversial
