It looks awful. However I remember when the W222 had pics like this we said the same thing. I am sure the designers will make it work right.

I highly doubt this is reflective of the actual car.
"Sinkwitz didn’t go into specifics, but said it's important that they evolve in the luxury sedan. There will be a new screen, but it won’t necessarily comprise of one all-encompassing large screen as Sinkwitz considers this setup “impersonal and not very warm.”

Are you kidding me? Putting a large screen in the center of a dash is catching up on technology? lol Common... The S Class can do things many other cars cannot and it also does it correctly too.. Even the new A Class is a tech hit!

Sun glare, fingerprints will make it unusable.
To change any settings, even turn on the rear window defroster you will have to pull over, stop, get a shade to cover the sun glare, wipe the glass with the special rag and then try to find it on that humongous TV set.
Or, you can continue driving and hope the airbags will save your ***.

I’ve done two market research surveys on the new S Class over the past 18 months or so and both times, the new S had the gigantic touch screens. The first time, the exterior looks of the car were incredible and very pleasing. The second time, they had futzed the exterior up too much, making it too busy, and to me, overdone and somewhat ugly. Look for distinctive, unique to the S Class tail lights on the new car. All that said, I like my 2018 so much, if the timing works out, I just might order another one before the model change.

Are they serious??!! Absolutely hideous, ruining the once beautiful S interior. The fingerprint issue will be massive also.

so you think the dial input method is great? Lexus has been using touch forever and it makes their command so much easier to navigate. You really think theres going to be a huge glare so that you cant see?

I've seen a LOT of prototypes in the last 20 years of transporting engineering cars around the country. 99% of them have a computer screen in them that runs the diagnostic programs and the multitude of sensors that the engineers use to tweak the cars and fine tune their characteristics. I doubt anything like this will show up in the actual production vehicles.

I'm not strictly against the touchscreen as I was once after seeing present gen Audis .However, some car companies make those look like too inferior and and Tesla is one of them sorry . I think Mercedes-Benz will be incorporating well designed eye catching screens .

Unfortunately, just found out from a relative (he is part of a team working on HVAC systems development in Memmingen near Munich), the screen on these spy pictures shows the actual thing and is already signed off.
I am truly disappointed, was looking forward to order the new S-Class with the new hybrid system (S73) but I just can't stand or live with that obnoxious, ugly thing in the middle of a dashboard.

From a design point of view - as we all know - tech becomes dated within months in these days. What I always loved and admired about the S Class - is their ability to NOT look dated even decades later, sort of like Rolls Royces or Bentleys. The W140, W126, etc - look just as magnificent now as they did 30 years ago.
Putting this kind of visual tech in the car will mean in 1 year - the next generation tech will permanently out-date the tech in the car. It will be like what the iphone did to the Motorola StarTAC or what Samsung LED did to the Sony Plasma.

During my last two yearly oil change/Services on my SL the dealership gave me C Class sedans as loaners. I laughed both times at the screens above the dash. They look like you gave a nine year old a IPad and a hot glue gun and let them decide where to mount the screen. What a joke....
