California cracking down on mods...
For those of you that aren't in Cali., don't feel left out because this is with regards to the new, more strict laws that are going to be enforced in California with regards to performance mods on vehicles.
I can understand why they are cracking down to stop "street" racing, but to go to this extent is a little ridiculous:

Most notable quote from this article:
Long list of illegal mods.
i got a fix it ticket before for modified exhaust, cost me only a few bucks for the swap to my stock exhaust and the 10 dollars to the CHP, but it was more so the inconvience.
As for profiling, if it helps solve the problem, why not? Is a 70 year old in a new MB a good target for CHP time or the Asian/Latino/PWT in the riced out Honda?
If you can't do the time, don't do the cime.

Anyways, this crackdown is a good thing, now only if they'd be able to do the same thing on older cheaper cars. It's horrible to be driving on the freeway through blue smoke..!

Love you too Ricky.
I used to work for a trucking company several years ago. We would get reported all the time in every state. Most were from idot tree huggers becasue our fleet was state of the art and one of the first to be computer controlled. Smoke was NEVER a problem.
So uh, can you ship some cars for me?

Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory. You may be able to see better, but the lights are illegal (24011 VC).
Note: New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. Citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed.
This law by not requiring a sound lever meter is very unfair. A CHP could give you a ticket purely because they don't like you. These laws are such BS. And like Josh says the laws mention nothing about the extremely lifted trucks. Which IMO is much more of a danger to the road then lowered cars. These laws were written up for one reason to make money for the state prue and simple not to protect public safe.
If you are legal, go to court and show it. If you are not, pay the price and stop your whining.

My cousin who owns an EVO VIII MR knows several of his fellow message board members that have gotten ticketed for aftermarket mods already and have had to get their cars inspected.
Now, granted they have EVO's vs. a Benz, but it may be something as small as an aftermarket exhaust that'll make a police officer suspicious.
Definitely can't stand some of these laws (especially if it's not necessarily keeping the streets "safer").
just my 2 cents from the civic side of things.
