Throttle Body upgrade!

Recentley I purchased a new stock throttle body for my 2003 SLK230 and sent it out for boring. When the part returned I installed it in about 5 minutes. Engine was sluggish at first but after 10 minutes the engines ECU reprogramed new fuel /air ratios and the engine purred. Runs cooler now. Was at 196RWHP and gained 4 hp which puts me at 200RWHP. Next up is porting a new supercharger and port/polish the cylinder head. Maybe custom cams. Vaeth intercooler by January. So far engine has responded really well with my mods. I do not think I will see the full impact of the Supersprint header/muffler until I clean out/enlarge the airflow pathway in the engine. Engine should run cooler at higher hp and torque. The engine feels really strong and the sound is awesome. I will update as I go. RC Engineering will do the fuel system testing/upgrading.

Have you done software and the pully upgrade yet?

I have the following mods so far:

1) Supersprint header/muffler

2) ASP Racing crank pulley

3) Green Cotton air filter

4) Enlarged throttle body

No chip work yet. The ECU seems to adapt to the upgrades quite well. Somewhere down the road I know that ECU remapping is a distinct possiblity.

SLK 230K
did you felt any "REAL-FELT" gained about the supersprint header?

When the Supersprint header was installed I still did not have the Supersprint muffler for another 6 weeks. The stock muffler was shaking sometimes due to the increase in air flow. I still think that the header will really kick in when I get more air inot the engine. Port and polish the supercharger and then the cylinder head. Maybe install sport cams, have the fuel system tested/ugraded, and then do some ECU work. Once I have done these mods then the header, with its free flowing design, will be able to handle the extra air from my mods. Frustrating as I have heard of no one going my route with an SLK.

I'm trying to see if a Maybach throttle body would work for my application and K crew said no. Oh well running S8 isn't so bad.

Steve,

Post pics of your ride pls!

Here are the latest. I have a trunk lip spoiler and the Euro bumper inserts that I need to have painted. Right now I am concentrating on hp and lbs. I have some really good ideas about how to have a custom 3 guage panel in the dash. It will work.

Right on the nose

I think your ideas for performance improvements are right on the nose. What this used to be called as to "blueprint and engine".

http://www.hastingsmfg.com/Service%2...ueprinting.htm

http://www.rpmrons.com/Balance.html

Those nagging little details on an engine will wring out that last bit of performance and also extend the operating life of an engine.

Kudos.

Tish!

Thanks for the supporting words. I will Measure the MAF sensor tomorrow. Like the stock throttle body the stock MAf sensor needs to be enlarged like the t/b, say 10%. The plastic pipe that bends down to the intercooler piping looks like it is ok but the piping coming off of the intercooler is smaller. I know that many attempts have ben made in regards to intercoolers and SLK/C classes but they did not have the right mods on their cars to see the benefit of a good designed intercooler. I am getting there. I think I am also going to buy a new stock fuel injector and send it to RC Engineering for testing. I am at 200RWHP and I bet the stock fuel injectors mays be opening at 100% capacity when pushed. I think I read somewhere that your injectors should never go beyond 80% capacity. The SLK 230's fuel pump is the same pump used in the SLK 320 and the SLK32. At least for the 2003 models. Should be ok if it can meet the fuel requirements of the SLK 32.

Again, Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

The throttle body in my car is aluminum!!!!

Tish, you were born 8 days to late and 2 years to late

Hubert!

I told Roy to use his judgement but I wanted the most aggressive bore but within safe limits. He said that he could go no larger than almost 3mm over stock without compromising safety. When you consider that Renntech sells a 78MM thottle body for all 8cyl. AMG engines which is 4mm over stock and they sell it for 5K. Gotta love Renntech and all those *******s. Screw them lets do it ourselves.

Throttle body optimization is a pretty easy modification for the mechanically inclined. Besides boring out the diameter there are other easy to perform improvements that will help airflow as described here: http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/Volvo_Books/maint3.html

Two Wheelin,

I did read your post and already have a guy picked out to do these mods and more to my bored out throttle body and I am also going to buy the actuator that is almost indentical to the throttle body expect it contols the airflow into the intake side of the intercooler. I am going to buy this part, have it bored out by RV Morse, and then send both parts to my next stop along the way. I got a 4hp gain with the bored out t/b. With a bored out actuator and then both thottle plates knife edged and polished I am hoping for 4-6 hp gain. Very attainable! Thanks so much for that info.

That place is so close to where I live. Maybe I'll talk to them if I need any machine work. Steve, I think I saw your car whoosh by Caliber's parts dept...those headers make your car sound nice if it was indeed your car.

Phsek,

Not me my friend. I live in San Diego but I was stationed in Long Beach and know LA and Orange Co. pretty well. No better place than Orange county, Cali! The best. The Supersprint headers sound awesome and as I continue to upgrade the car the headers will reach thier potential. Exhaust side just as important as the intake side.

Your list of mods is very impressive. Any photos to share. Gotta love the South Cali weather for driving our MB's. I really need that Vaeth intercooler as I drive east of San Diego county and drive the back roads in the De Anza Borrego desert. Gets kinda hot out there.

I posted a picture of my car in the W203 forum. I'd have to agree that O.C. is a nice place to live, but I hate the traffic.

What entry level mods can I do to my 05 c230k? I'm leaning to start with an induction kit but I keep reading about pulley upgrades.

There is a whole bunch of stuff over in the C forum. If you use the search tool on the forum you can dig for specifics.
