Tuning Options for M271 in Singapore
Recently made some market survey, and came up with some of these options for our M271 engines (fitted in C180K, C200K, E200K, CLK 200, SLK200)
1. Kleeman Pulley Kit + K-Box from Benzline
2. Carlsson Kit from Autovox
3. Pulley Kit + Brabus tuning from MBM Wheelpower
Automobil Manufactur used to do a Vaeth conversion, but was told by them they've stopped doing so, citing lack of demand.
I recently witnessed MBM doing the Brabus tuning on a beautiful black CLK200, now awaiting dyno results.
How about all M271 owners writing in on this thread to contribute on our experience in tuning this 1.8L SC engine? Hopefully fellow Singaporeans can add on where and how much you did your kit over and above the tuning experience!

I know a guy from a reputable UK tuning firm who comes down to Singapore every 2 months or so. He specialises in Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, Mercedes and I know of many very satisfied customers. If u r interested or want more details, send me a PM.
BTW, this company Benzsolution offers MKB tuning which I think you should consider as well.

Next ? The Kleemann header system is in place for the M271 but is designed for the LHD....

Is the C230 having a engine displacement of 1796 cc which is similar to the C200 ? Does it make sense that the only difference between the C230 and C200 is the supercharger that generates the extra HP ?

C180 Piston A SC A
C200 Piston B SC A
C230 Piston A SC B
As far as I know that is the matrix. It needs to be validated though as there are no C230 engines in AU for me to look at.
Dont forget that the ECU is not the same settings. I dont know if the ECU can be reset to a different engine.

How about Singapore Merc mod fans have a small get together to compare notes? I think pulley + ECU tuning is the easiest/cheapest way to get more power out of the popular M271 engine. However, the key questions are:
1. Which is most reliable?
2. Which is most cost effective?
3. Which has good after sales service?
SLKFan, MBM told me they're also doing a header for our M271 engines, as the default 90 degress 4-1 header is really bad for flow. I'm keeping tabs on the black Brabus tuned CLK200K, as that car will be fitted with the works. If everything turns out fine in that car, I'll be tempted too, price willing.
But of course, the Kleemann K-Box system is attractive, and in fact, was the first kit I seriously considered a year ago when I got my E. Now that a year has passed and my E is trouble free, I'm quite game for some serious tuning now!

Awesome, that will be fun to have a session where we can get together to explore the M271 engine. I am impressed with Kleemann, their after sales service is incredible....wrote them an email for some support and you will have their response on the same day taking into consideration of the time difference between singapore and denmark.
Having the crank pulley isn't enough, the ecu to cater the air/fuel ratio contributes the final end product IMO.
I am skeptical on some tuners where your ecu gets wipe out due to some updates from your local benz dealer, you will be charge to get the identical ecu...I know this really sucks...I had my experience and obviously, I will avoid tuners who has this policy in place.
Kleemann IMO is top notch....no regrets with Kleemann !

OK. Will see if we can have a gathering one of these Fri nights. Maybe synch with the gathering of IntegraSG a well, so we get to see sporty coupes over and above our M271 Mercs! I'll post here when I get some updates.
BTW, the Brabus tuning alone is about $4.5K. Add the cost of pulleys, and it'll be quite a bit more expensive than the bolt-on Kleemann kit with K-Box. I saw the dyno charts that shows about 200bhp on crank.
Looks like you're pretty pleased with the Kleemann kit. I believe you posted you also got about 200bhp with it too, right? What about the support from the local installers of Kleemann? I know Benzline is only a shop, and they'll refer to a garage to get it fitted. Where's the actual installer?

I got my Kleemann kit from overseas, not local. Due to the exchange rate, the kit is steal. I got one of the Bimmers performance workshop to install the K-Box as they are very well verse with the ECU setup. The K-Box was installed in less than 30 mins. They are located in Sin Ming.
I just can't wait for the header system. I contacted Vaeth, Kleemann, their headers are only catered for LHD.

I checked with one of the Kleemann dealers in PJ. However, they do not have the K-Box at that point of time, only the Pulley which cost approx. S$2500

Ok guys, I will be receiving my M271 header tomorrow :p . From there, I will perform a dyno run and see what are the gains with this new header system.
I will post pics of the header as well as the dyno charts....

You'r talking about hoong from seapark izit? They have it now but defintely not cheaper than SG.
Their amg brake system is competitive and shd give them a try.

Not trying to pour cold water on this subject. I love the torque, no doubt, but i also love money. haha.
The performance is great but too high a boost can hurt the M271. Do read up on some of the M271 engine failure on some of these forums and moderate what you intent to do. Personal experience, my #2 piston warped and need to be replaced, total cost from CnC, ~slightly off $10K. Down car for at least 1mth for them to find the fault and repair.
If you see me on the road, honk at me to say hi!. cheerio.

Are you saying you were on Kleemann kit or some other pulley kit when you busted your M271 engine? Pls give us more details so we know what to mod and what to watch out for. What other cases of M271 failing from such a kit?
Frankly, I've not heard of any M271 engines failing from a proper kit like Kleemann and Carlsson.

wow this thread is great. a singaporean one.
im not sure whether you guys are familiar with my M111 230k engine but i actually installed a kleemann g1 pulley kit for my car. however, after abt 3/4 of a yr, my ecu was spoilt. went to c&c and they blamed it on the pulley upgrade. i initially ignored them and just replaced the ecu. i have killed 4 ecus since. now i am running with just the stock pulley.
any idea why my ecu keeps on failing? as you would expect, c&c can't give me a definite answer. i checked with kleemann and they said that this kit does not require ecu tuning.

The M271 performance header will be available in our local ground soon. Two options is available, header with the downpipe that includes the Cats which is a much better flow that the stock, or just the header itself. The header is a 4-1 made of stainless steel grade 304. This is good news for all M271 owners.
