They have a comparison between the Pockey Dyno and the G-Tech pro on their website... I think the feature to be able to view a graph of the data received is worth the extra money alone.

What I usually do in a situation like this, is purchase both products and return the one that I am not satisfied with. I can test both products without having to spend any extra money. If you're going to do this, just make sure to pay by credit card .

I sure would like to read a detailed review of the Pocket Dyno, I have been unable to find any thus far.

If you already own a Palm, I think this would be great.

I like the idea of being able to graph it. I might get one. I ordered the trial version of it. I'll let you know what it does.

There are two ways that it gives you your 1/4 mile time. You actually run a 1/4 mile and it gives you your time, or you go 0-60 and it calculates an ESTIMATED 1/4 mile time.

Those are great amature toys that are of great amusement for about 10 minutes. That's why there are so many for sale on e-bay. I'm suprised they don't have one that plugs into a gameboy.

If you are serious about accurate measurements and going to the track is beneath you then you need what the big boys use, a VBox.

The VBox starts at $5,000 and goes to $10,000+. I've got one for certifying my equipment. A nice instrument for sure, but hardly within reach for most performance enthusiasts.

These are Mercedes owners, money is no object. Of course I'm cheap so thanks for the tip on the AC-22 from Race Technology, looks like a nice unit for under $200. What I like is that you can calibrate it to your real 1/4 mile times with rollout and reaction times. The G-Tech is only 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with no ability to calibrate. They even have a GPS based unit that's similar to the VBox for under a $1,000.

I might have an E55 but money is my main concern at all times, may be because I don't grow it on my back yard

We have an S600, one of the most expensive MB's produced, and I would never spend 10 grand on a Vbox .

If the readings on the PocketDyno are exact and have been verified on a Vbox, what's the point in purchasing a Vbox unless you're racing professionally, in which you would have sponsors to provide you this stuff .

But then why get the Pocket dyno when you can get the Race Technologies AC-22 or AP-22 with the same features and no Palm Pilot required for a lot less. I love my Palm Pilot but I can't imagine it dangling with a cable and gizmo on the end when I'm doing 60-0 stops for best time.

A special mount is provided so the palm pilot is perfectly secured.

.............I'm confused. How does the pocket dyno interface with your car?

It has nothing to do with your car, you can be on a bicycle. It's has an accelerometer that measure acceleration. It figures 0-60 based on computations of acceleration vs. time. It's not like being at the track because the track is tested, flat and repeatable. The problem with these gizmos is that people use them on different roads where surface, incline and other variables exists. So you do a 0-60 run at a certain point. The next day you do it a block away and you get a different result because the road may have an imperceptable incline, a pot hole, drainage angle, etc...

Of course the more expensive units use GPS and are more accurate.

The idea behind these units is to find a road that you can safely do the testing in a repeatable fashion. I use a G-Tech Pro. I have a spot after a bridge on a freeway, where I pull over to take a "telephone call", to test 1-100kmh figures. I have finnished with the mods to the car now so have no need to test. This is probably a better reason for them being on sale.
