ACETONE additive to boost mileage?
I am busy trying to improve the MPG on my trusty E320 (so far, the forum's suggestion that I switched to Mobil 1 oil was great!) and I've come across an intriguing website. Among other things, the author (Louis LaPointe) recommends adding 2 or 3 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of gasoline. That would increase mileage about 25% or more. Either the guy is nuts or this is a great idea! However, I don't want to be a guinea pig. Have you ever heard of this or tried it? Please let me know. Here is the link:

No Way
There is no way 2 or 3 ounces of anything could improve gas mileage by 25%. This is nuts!

I don't know about acetone....I would stay away from that. I used to have a Mitsubishi Evolution and on there forums people have a recipe for TOLUENE mixed with gas to increase the octane rating and improve mileage. Never tried it in mine but people say it works, and doesn't mess with rubber lines.

Toluene will increase the octane rating. All of the aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, xylene) will boost octane rating. But at what cost? This stuff is expensive! And in the case of benzene - toxic. You may notice a slight improvement in power, but very little. Not worth it. Don't waste your $ on this stuff.
